My Canadian husband and I (American) will be mailing our outland application to Canadian immigration later this week. I'm not familiar with what the options are to send the application. Here in the US we have FedEx and United States Postal Service. Can someone tell me the quickest way and more importantly, most reliable way to have our package delivered? Btw, I'll be in Canada in a few days so we will mail it together from within Canada.

I'm Canadian and my Husband is American. I sent our application from within Canada and I just used Xpresspost with Canada Post (like that I would have tracking on it). If you want to be extra sure about receipt, you can always use a private courier like UPS, Fedex or Purolator. If you use a private courier you need to use a different address.

My spouse just used the express mail through Canada Post (with tracking on it). He sent it in the morning and in the tracking we saw that they received it noon on the next day.

Thanks everyone! Will use Xpresspost with tracking. I'm just ready to get this filed after all of the work we've put into getting everything ready.

We mailed all our documents with FedEx from the US to Canada. It is more expensive than USPS, but in our experience completely reliable.

Just wanted to add that the recommendation is to use the actual address listed for couriers on CIC website, not the PO box. While Xpresspost is technically a Canada Post service, it is considered a courier. Plus as far as I understand you don't always get a signature if you send to the PO box address.

We used Xpresspost, and while they promised next business day delivery it got delayed.. it arrived the next day and we even got a refund for the inconvenience but still I was a nervous wreck for about 24 hours. I'm not saying i wouldn't recommend it, just something to keep in mind.

In the grand scheme of things, your application will take months to process, so an extra couple of days in shipping won't make any real difference. I went with plain old Xpresspost with tracking which takes 3-4 days.

It really wasnt about the total processing time, but getting it in early enough so the police certificates didn't expire. We had a buffer of 2-3 weeks so didn't want to take the chance..

Correct IrisSphere, same here. My FBI background check expires in 3 weeks so I need to make sure they get the application as soon as possible.
