B4 is also a form we use to get our goods from another country ;)

I hate text speak, but sadly, I have used it. Usually when I'm in a hurry if I'm texting someone OR if I'm using the TTY, it's actually "normal" to use short form of a lot of words just so that people can get the message quicker. Bah.

I do use some abbreviations, such as "bf" and "gf." I'm also a horrible speller.... I use OMG as well, but I do want to punch people when they say it outloud....... Because I used to live in the South and they would say "OMG" instead of "Oh my god" because that was taking the Lord's name in vain. Sweetheart, just because you shorthand it doesn't change the meaning........ /facedesk

I really do slap my forehead and bang my head on the wall in real life. Might explain a few issues :D

"Yer" is not a word. "B" is a letter of the alphabet, not a verb. "4" is a number, not a word denoting ownership. Lastly, "B4" is a character from Star Trek: Nemesis, not a way of indicating a event has already occured. (:P )

I hate "text talk" and "leet speak."

What's worse is I have a friend, who is very intelligent, has a diploma, takes courses at U of C constantly, but still uses text talk when she texts me. I want to beat her with my broom.

However, my least favorite is "PLZ" especially when it's in all caps and repeated: "PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ." You know what? You're too lazy to write the word "please" out and make a nice, polite statement. You're probably too lazy to help yourself, which is why you're on the internet begging others. NO, I will NOT help you! Grrrr!

PS: I understand typos, non-native speakers, and brainfarts. Those are okay.

I see we have lots of English teachers on this topic.

LOL.....My Mom was a teacher so diction, grammar and spelling were all constantly reinforced. There was no escape!!!

The other thing that bugs me is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does it really require more than one, two, even three, to exclaim something? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ??

:P

My favorites here in Knoxville are, People having a yard sell, they need to sale items, usually a chester of drawers. It amazes me how many here can't read.

When writing a long sentence - because I love compound complex sentences, I still diagram them in my head to ensure it's not a run on!

I am guilty of run on sentences... punctuation was and is not a skill of mine. I love word for letting me know though. I can alter my wording to correct it. Oh, and the little read line in the reply box that lets me know if I have a typo too! They are my friends... ;D

Run on sentences can make me break out in sweats. Any of my longer posts get written then rewritten. If I miss a mistake I will go back and modify it.

I can easily ignore all the mistakes from a person who's first language is not English. For the rest of us there is no excuse.

I think I graduated high school and never heard of a "run-on sentence". FIVE years of high school English (IN Canada), and not ONE grammar class in all those five years. That's MY excuse! Proud of my spelling though, just need a dictionary, not a course in it.

Mistakes on the finer points of grammar doesn't bother me. I don't even get weirded out when people use commas and conjunctions wrong - especially commas in use with conjunctions.

I do get annoyed when people try to tell me my grammar is wrong though.

Like the lady that told me I spelled "Moot point" incorrectly. (She wanted it spelled 'mute point.') I had to show her the dictionary.

"Moot point" is my most common mistake. I have no idea why I always type it "mute". I don't pronounce it that way.

I get bothered by "Flags flying at half-mast". Unless that flag is on a ship it should be "half-staff".
