Reality is most qualified folks end up driving cabs ( you will meet many doctors and engineers driving cabs ) , a small % get a proper job but if you upgrade yourself with Canadian experience and education, then things look better later
While this is true, if some doctors are willing to settle in small communities, they can be doctors. My doctor is from Africa and he settled in a tiny tiny town haha.

He would still have to be Canadian qualified. My doctor is Palestinian and his pharmacist is Lebanese and all their medical assistants are Filipinas. They opted for Winnpeg to settle because it offered a good starting point. There is nothing particularily attractive about Winnipeg but the Filipinos have made their mark here. Many have good jobs and businesses. Tagalog is the second most spoken language here now.

Which he is. The majority of the doctors and nurses in this group (http://www.ucfht.com/index.php) are immigrants. My doctor actually looked over our papers for us, free, and pointed out some things we missed. It was nice of him.

Anyway, yes they have to have credentials that are equal to Canadians. Most of the credentials are. My orthopedic surgeon was from Africa too.. now that I think about it, a lot of African doctors settle here, graduated from Cape Town University.

I would advise not settling in the major cities when you first arrive unless you have a job in hand. The cost of living is so high that a family of 4 really needs a gross income of $150000/year just to meet the basics.

There are lots of smaller communities trying to grow into the modern age and I think anyone should consider moving to smaller communities.

If that's $150K CAD, then that is really far fetched for Alberta....and probably sask, Manitoba, parts of BC...and maybe east. (Not counting North...but probably there too)

That's some pretty high standards for meeting the basics. It can be done quite comfortably with $80K CAD

Really? Why not? I'm curious about that as I have a few friends from the UK who want to come here and they are nurses. Would be good information to send along to them.

I'll call that BS right now. I know no one that makes over 100K a year and these people own their own home (outright), take nice vacations, aren't up to their knees in debt, have kids, both have a car, etc. In fact, I don't know for sure, but I think my highest paid friend's household income is 70K a year combined.
