Hello everyone,

I am looking to marry my fiancee (we've been together for 6 years) next month in a small wedding (just the 2 of us). It will take place in a mosque out of respect for her family and I will convert religions. Due to this non-traditional situation, it makes the most sense to simply have this done between the 2 of us. We will then apply for spousal PR quickly thereafter.

Next summer (when my side can take time off from work due to summer vacation) we would like to hold the wedding reception in my fiancee's country overseas. This will be a more "traditional" western style wedding reception.

My question is, do I mention anything about this wedding reception occurring a year later in the PR application? Does this look bad or hurt my chances? Any suggestions or advice?

P.S. I already personally put a deposit on the wedding reception venue in my fiancee's country for July 2013, so there is some proof I could include.

It should have no negative impact, all you do is explain why it is occurring at that time, just like you did here: you want your family present and that is when they will be available.

We moved our wedding ceremony up by two months, went out to dinner with the few family and friends that were able to attend, and then two months later went ahead with the lunch reception originally planned, so that the family members who were absent from the ceremony could still celebrate with us. We explained all of this in our relationship essay and no questions were raised about it.

You should let them know you are having a reception next year and why (family vacation time). Showing that you already have the deposit will be nice proof that it will happen. If you happen to still be going through the process when the reception takes place you should send proof to CIC.

Excellent. I was worried that they would question the legal wedding in Canada since it will only be 2 people present.

Looks like you have long relationship. Do include your past evidence how it was developed, important milestones. Past and future plans would support your marriage on your own.

anything that still has to take place in the future cannot be proven. Tonight or tomorrow could make things entirely different.

no.....definitely mention the reception and enclose a copy of your contract/deposit.......it is absolutely substantial proof at this time and CIC deals in the present.....in the future you can add further proof if needed...i.e. further deposit or other reception expenses that might be occurring....copies of the invitations etc.
