It is definitely better to explain who is in the photo. A picture of "Us with all of our parents at our wedding" is worth a lot more than just sending a pic of you guys and some unknown older people at your wedding :).

We wrote an explanation of where, when and who below each of our pics

Best thing is to write the names of the people in the photos and date them.

We did color pics from our computer files, on 8 1/2 x 11 pages with information about who is in the pictures on all kinds of things including our wedding, family reunions, Christmas / Thanksgiving parties, vacations, where it was taken, with whom, dates, etc, and have occasions each in it's own section (we ended up with about 250 pages of pictures, letters, and other documentation, but it is all neatly organized, and we didn't send everything that we could have...we left off a few things that we have pictures for, but we felt it was time to stop, we have plenty in there now so more is going to be too much, maybe). It got to being an obsession, so we both looked at each other and said "It's enough, it's more than enough". But the pictures tie in with other things like the letters we have from some relatives who mention having met me, and we have pictures to corroborate that fact.

We did nothing with the pics. In ours however, the "bride" was obvious, the "groom" was obvious, and even the bride's "mother" was obvious . . . They (the VO) seemed to "get it".

I did the same as you did.
But if i would have known earlier to label picts , i would have. Atleast it makes sense to me now.

Except the bride and groom , it wont be easier for officer to find out the important family members.
Atleast in my wedding my brothers and dad had same color shirt , same with ladies from my family which will give them some hint without labelling the picts...:)

You can ask the photo shop to print the photos with the date (actual day photo was taken) on the front corner fo each photo. I did this and it helped to arange them by month/year. I also placed small numbered stickers on each photo and I used a non-smudgy pen to write the numebrs on the back (in case the numberd stickers fall off haha). AND, i typed caption for each photo and printed them.glued them to the back of each photo with Who/Where/When info.
