Hello all,
Myself and my husband are marrying next month. He is american and I am Canadian (by birth).. I was just curious to average wait time once paperwork is sent in
TIA ;D

Are you applying inland or outland? I assume you are applying outland as it is recommended for US applicant/Canadian sponsor application.

There is a spreadsheet here which can give you an indication. To my knowledge from applying to decision made a straight forward case takes anywhere from 3-6 months for a US applicant.

Do you have any red flags? Criminal record, previous marriages, quick engagement, etc?

yes we are applying with him Outland:) and no, he works for the gaming control board (that runs casinos... STRICT FBI clearances to work there), and I am a nurse which also has strict police clearance. Both of us have squeaky clean records
Thanks for the link!

A few people in the September thread have already gotten decision made, although that's not a guarantee.
US applicants with straightforward applications seem to be done in about 6 months.

*edit: disregard the previous comment. I confused you with another US applicant who had asked the exact same questions. Sorry!

Keep in mind that you cannot compete the process until you have done the medical, which I understand will be delayed until June. So you can expect your timeline to end sometime after June, not before.

Where did the op say they will not be doing the medical until June? Did I miss something?

Doh! I confused the applicant with someone else who had been asking the exact same questions. Sorry OP! Aside from the pregnancy gaff, my previous answer still stands. :)

The people in the September spreadsheet who already have DM were not US citizens. They were supposed to go to other visa offices and for some reason their application was kept in Mississauga. Three were from London VO and I am not sure where the 4th was from.

The Ottawa spreadsheet that Andrew linked is your best way of tracking. Like they all said before USA Citizens with straight forward applications can be approved between 3-6 months.

US citizen here with clean record / no red flags / together 5 years - applied 9/10/14 - SA 10/28/14 - filed transferred to Ottawa VO - radio silence. Still waiting 77 days and counting. I don't expect to hear anything this year but I do expect to hear something early next year. (Good luck!)

BTW there is also an US Outland Thread. I recommend you check it out :)

I thought at least one of them was supposed to go through Ottawa? Regardless, Ottawa has a pretty good track record as of late.
It appears I may have eaten some hallucinogenics for breakfast, given my responses in this thread.

the average for us citizens lately seems to be 6 months from submission to decision made. while summer applicants saw quicker processing times, it was not the "norm", and it's really caused some applicants to assume all applications will go that fast.

really US applicants shouldn't be assuming they will get approved before 6 months. to expect it to be less will just lead to disappointment. it's far better to be surprised at a quicker processing time than to get upset it's taking "too long". i am sure applicants from other countries will agree 6 months is considered quick in the grand scheme of things, and US citizens are quite lucky in their processing.

also, it has to be noted in the months since i started keeping track on this forum, there has been a "rotation" of quick processing offices. back in the spring, it was common for syndey and paris to approve applicants in 3 months. now those offices have slowed to almost a complete stop, resulting in overflows to stay in mississauga. it then switched to ottawa, now it's uk and some asian applicants. it's really hard to figure out how CIC does anything, so who knows why some people get approved in 3 months, and others get approved in 6-12. as others have pointed out, it can be as simple as the xth application in queue gets pulled for quick processing or they may be experimenting with a more efficient process.

when i submitted our application, the average time was 8-10 months. after SA, i stopped thinking about the application and *hoped* i'd be in canada for the holidays. while it was very difficult to not obsessively think about it, it was also a pleasant surprise to be approved in half the time. so my advise to all waiting is to relax and stop stressing about how many days it's been. it's important to release the needs for control and having to know what's going on. the truth is once your application is submmited, there is very little control or information shared by CIC, so needing it will only lead to frustration. let it gooooooo, let it gooooo! it will certainly make the process go much faster when the days are not counted and it's accepted there will be months of silence.
