Hello all!

Just to be absolutely certain, here is my scenario:

I'm a Kenyan citizen but currently residing in Canada on a visitor status with my husband who is a Canadian citizen. My fingerprints are being processed at the moment in the U.S (I was a student there since the age of 18).

There is a backlog for fingerprints at the FBI right now so I was wondering if we should go ahead and send in my paperwork to Mississauga so at least my husband can be approved as a sponsor in the mean time. But should I only send his paperwork to get approved or everything we have and write a letter regarding the fingerprints? How would it work if my husband was approved and my fingerprints were still not in?

Any insight on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks!

They won't need your FBI check until after they approve the sponsor and start working on your file. I think the current time for sponsorship approval is 85 days. Once you get your SA, you can send the FBI check to the visa office that will process your part with your UCI and file number. I've seen a few people who did this very thing and it didn't have any affect on their processing time. I'm hoping this is the case for me as well, since I also just sent mine in without the FBI check. I did include a letter explaining and a copy of the form I sent to the FBI, just to show them that I did indeed send off for it.

Thank Panamai!

So I would just send my entire application to Mississauga with a letter explaining why I'm not attaching my FBI check, and then I should send the FBI check to Kenya? Isn't there a chance of this getting lost or them not being able to place it to my file? Or am I just being paranoid?

I appreciate your help!

One thing to note: The FBI clearance must be received by CIC within 3 months of it being issued, and since CIC is currently taking 3 months to approve the sponsor, you may run into problems. By the time you get a file number, your clearance will have expired, and you'll have to do it all over again.

MilesAway, I submitted my fingerprints end of Nov and I believe they are taking about 3 months to clear so if I submit my application to Mississauga now, I will be in good time with the clearance? Am I missing something? Thanks!

Reports from FBI Channelers are now accepted by CIC. They are usually much faster. You may want to give this a try

You won't have a file number or anything to submit the clearance with until you get SA, which is taking 3 months. If you submitted them at the end of November, you might be better off just waiting until the clearance arrives.

Keesio: Unfortunately, this only applied to U.S citizens or residents :(.

Are you sure? When I go to CIC's website, I don't see anything listed as such, even when I look under non-citizen/resident

Keesio,

I read this on the discussion post link you provided:

JUst to add on, further reading on FBI website states that

An FBI-approved Channeler may only process requests for a U.S. person (an individual who is a citizen of the U.S. or a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.). A lawful permanent resident is any person not a citizen of the U.S. who is residing in the U.S. under legally recognized and lawfully recorded permanent residence as an immigrant (also known “Permanent Resident Alien,” “Resident Alien Permit Holder,” and “Green Card Holder”).

So despite the good news, the channeler option will only benefit americans or american permanent residents unfortunately

Oh.. sorry.

Why would CIC even mention it then for non-citizens? No wonder we are so confused by them :p

And, if the American citizen is in Canada, the channeler will not mail the FBI report to them. It has to be sent to their U.S. mailing address.
