Hi there,

This is an amazing forum and I thank all the experts who has been contributing unconditionally.

I am currently in Canada with a study permit and co-op work permit. My wife is also in Canada with a OWP.
We want to invite my in-laws(my wife parents only and not her siblings) to visit us in Canada. I have the following queries and appreciate any expert response;

1. The Invitation Letter - Can we (me and my wife) both write the Invitation letter, or it has to be her alone (being the daughter of the invitees.)
2. Can we apply online from here in Canada ? if yes, how does it work out in terms of how do my mother in-law and father in-law send across their passport to the consulate in India.

3. If the answer to qns 2 is 'No', I am assuming we send across the invitation letter to them with the relevant documents and then they apply on their own back in India. Is my assumption of the procedure correct ?

4. In the invitation letter can we mention that we are expecting a baby and my wife needs family support. Thats the reason we are inviting them. Is that a acceptable reason ?

Waiting for your reply,,... thanking in advance, and appreciate your time and effort.

Regards,

1. You can do it together if you wish. When writing an invitation letter for my mother in law both my wife and I signed the letter.

2. You cannot apply, the recipient of the visa must apply.

3. You assume correctly.

4. YES!! I think a brief description of the reason for the visit, what you plan on doing, where you plan on going, and when they will be returning are all good to include in an inviation letter.

While filling the form IMM5257E (TRV_Application), under the heading 'DETAILS OF VISIT TO CANADA' , Question 2 - "Indicate How long you plan to stay" --- Whats is considered a decent answer ?

As the Visitor Visa is valid for 6 months, can I put the duration of stay (for my in-laws) close to 6 months in response to the above question.

Any previous applicant please help ...,

You have to be honest about this. Any answer is good as long as it is no greater than 6 months. Be prepared to justify with support documentation any plans you have.

I am unemployed and pregnant and my husband is working here in Canada. While sending invitation letter to my mother can I ask my husband to sign in that. The letter should be framed as if I am inviting my mother or should we both address in that letter ????
Please help.

Also in the questionnaire there is a question for my mom that are you dependant on someone financially. We are planning to provide her airfare and other expense but again if I click yes I have to show my financial supporting statements which I cant do.. so if I ask my husband to show that proof they ll ask to prove the relationship between my mom n husband. Can I give no to that question and will show funds from my mom side.

I am in great dilemma please help senior members

First of all, congratulations for the incoming baby!

I helped my in-laws to apply very recently. My wife's situation is same as yours. The invitation letter should be signed by both you and your husband (sometimes 'notarized' preferred).

I wouldn't recommend you to say that you/your husband will provide the airfare. You can say that you will be responsible for any cost (food, accommodation, transporation, medical if required etc.) during their stay in Canada. Since you don't work; you don't have to provide anything other than proof of your relationship with your parents (copy of birth certificate) and your husband (copy of marriage certificate). But your husband has to show proof of funds (NOA, T4, pay stubs, bank statements etc.). Mind you, both of you will require to provide copies of PR cards (both sides) or Citizenship cards (both sides).

FYI, my in-laws (visited Canada before) applied on Dec 1, 2014 in local VAC (Bangladesh), they forwarded the application to Visa Office (Singapore) where it reached on Dec 5, 2014 and the decision has been made already (dispatched the passport today on Dec 12, 2014). Fingers crossed!!!

Hope it helps and good luck!

If you're talking about online TRV application; I never did it. If your mom has some source of income (from property or investment); you can say 'NO'. If she is really dependent on someone and you cannot prove otherwise; you may have to consider 'YES'. Again, I never had to do it.

Actually, when I gave my letter to my lawyer friend to notarize; he re-did the whole thing on his own. I never got a soft copy of it. It was a letter in affidavit format signed by both of us which includes copies of our PR cards as well. The lawyer signed and stamped after we signed.

Hi All,

I am filling the forms for the TRV application on behalf of my in-laws. Once completed, I will send across the soft copies (by email) to them, they will print, sign and apply(on paper) to a VISA office near them. I am in Canada and they are in India.

Question 1: Now, while filing the form IM5476(Use of representative), there is a question (Section B- question 8) which ask for 'Signature of representative'. Do I need to print it, sign it and send it across to them by post ?, Or can I print it, sign it, scan it and then send it across to them by email (soft copy).

Question 2: Do I need to send the original invitation letter to them. Meaning, Print the invitation letter, sing it and send it across to them by post. Or can I print it, sign it, scan it and then send it across to them by email (soft copy).

Thanks for your reply !,

Regards,
