Hey guys,

My fathers visa is getting expired next year Dec 2022. He has a visitor visa valid till Dec 2022. He got a new passport now, should I apply for a new visitor visa? Can I apply for a new visitor visa for his new passport?

Even after passport expires, the visa will be valid. He will just need to carry old and new passports.

Passport expires on Dec 21, 2022 and visa expires on the same date as well. How come that will be valid after December? If he comes here during that month and wishes to return back in February, 2023, will I be able to apply a visitor visa from Canada?

sorry, I thought passport is expiring before visa. @legalfalcon may have some advice on this.

The visas are never issued beyond the validity of the passport. If you have received a new passport and the visa holder intends to be in Canada for a duration longer than that of the visa, you will have to apply for a new visa.

However, unless it is a supervisa, you can only stay in Canada for 6 months on a visitor's visa, so you will have to address this in your application.

Yes, you can. However, since he has a validity of more than a year, you will have to justify why you are renewing when on a visitor's visa the max you can stay in Canada is 6 months.

Thank you @legalfalcon . Its because we are planning to bring him here next year Sept 2022 if everything is okay! cant predict anything now a days. He will stay with us for 6 months, which will be march 2023. Now his visa on old passport gets expired in Dec 2021 including the passport. We got a new passport now; so thought to apply a visa to avoid any other issues.

With the old passport and visa issued on that set to expire on Dec 2022; I think he cant stay after that in Canada.

You don’t renew a visa. She applies for a new visitor visa on the IRCC site.

Hi All, I have recently reached out to ircc to help transfer my dads visitor visa onto his new passport (to anquire about the process) and since I didnt receive reply for a 3 weeks, I reached out to delhiimmigration asking for update and today I got a reply mail saying "For your attention! But nothing mentioned after that. What does this mean?
