Visitor Visa for Retired Parents

My parents are both Retired government employees and earning pension. They have travelled to Australia thrice in the past 10 years for 2 months each time to visit family. They have proper income tax returns and some property to their name. They have friends and cousins (both) in Canada.

I have recently received CoPR and would like to apply for their visitor visa before landing so they can accompany or follow soon after.

I am confused about providing a day to day itinerary for them. I wouldn't know right now. They will likely visit me and also their families and friends. At the same time what is the best option to choose in the online application? Do I choose that they are accompanying someone who is landing or do I say they are merely travelling to visit family? How do I apply for both of them on a single application?

Short advice:
Do NOT apply for their TRVs until at least a few months after you land as PR and settle in. Otherwise it would seem like they are moving to Canada with you on a long-term basis

My parents won’t end up visiting me then. It’s hard to convince them to travel anyway and unless I’ve done it before they visit, they’ll just not do it.

One must see matters from a visa perspective rather than from personal/emotional angles.

In this case:
1. It would clearly seem like your parents are moving with you long-term.
2. Their travel to Australia was for more than 3-4 weeks on each visit. So, not exactly short stay visitors.
3. Your parents are retired = No compelling employment/business ties to return to.... which again brings in the possibility of 'moving with you on a long-term basis' = Potential to overstay their visit
4. If you'd like your parents to stay with you for long duration then you can apply for their super visas or try your luck for PGP PR when you are eligible

My parents visited my brother in Australia. They’ve never overstayed or violated their visas. They’ve always funded their own trips. Doesn’t that count for anything? I don’t understand why the duration of the trip should be an issue when there are means of financial ability to fund a trip as a retired person and past history shows that they always return.

I don’t intend for them to visit for more than 8 weeks and it is more to help me feel settled in a new place. I was planning on applying for the less than 6 months stay Visa.

The aforementioned is more of an opinion rather than quoting ‘IRCC’ by laws/statutes. There are blokes who have garnered visas here without satisfying any of the above criteria.

My take is this: as long as you have a strong application, there is nothing precluding you from obtaining a TRV in the 1st attempt.

Is there any update on this? In a similar situation myself.

Do you apply for a TRV for your parents? What was the outcome?
