"Hello everyone,
I'm in need of some guidance regarding my parents' visitor visa extension in Canada. Originally, they were scheduled to leave on December 12th,2023 but due to unforeseen circumstances, we now need to extend their stay by one month until mid-January, 2024
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the visitor visa extension process in Canada and can share the current timelines? Ideally, we'd like to receive the extension before they leave in January, but we're concerned about what happens if the decision doesn't come through before they depart.
Has anyone been in a similar situation, and what were the outcomes if the extension was still in process when your family left? Also as medical is also mandatory can we do upfront medical , and if the medical request comes after they depart can they do it from India ?

Any insights or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help!"

Hi,
Time line varies but in my experience it took around 40 days. even If you applied and you received the AOR and your visa expired you are still legally staying in Canada until a decision made on the application. For the medical, you don't have to do it up front, in our case, we received the visitor extension and in the letter it says pending the medical exam, so once you get the letter, you can do the medical exam and if there is any issue they will let you know. I recommend for you to attach a letter to explain why you want them to stay more, that would help.

Hello Anubhav,
Did you get your application finalised?
If you don't mind, can you attach a template for the letter you used for further explanation to the officer? And did you have to get the letter notarized?
