As far as I know, if they say they started processing the application on a certain date, then background checks have not been done yet. They wil not do the checks before they started processing it. The checks are a part of the process. So they will start the checks from Sep 5., not before that. AOR just means, that they have received the application.
BUT:
that does not mean, that you won't get your PR fast, I remember there was someone from the VO Vienna who got his PR within a week after they started processing it. It really depends on each case.

Then thats sad....cause her file been sitting there since 4 months before much happend. Can only hope they are really really fast now.

going by other posts, when it says processing Monikita should get PPR in something like 2 weeks time, so I think showing in process means they finally start working (dunno if the background checks were done but I would assume so)

Thank you for your opinions! As soon as I have some updates I will inform you. My intuition says my background checks are not done yet, as waikiki suggested. Let's see what my GCMS notes say - I will get them in 10 days. My case should not be complicated: no kids, no divorce, no criminality... What could slow down my application is the fact that I lived in 4 foreign countries in past...

Once they start processing, it can go very fast, just a matter of a couple of weeks, maybe faster.I don't think that the fact, that you have been living in 4 different countries necessarily means that it will slow down your case.

That's strange, it seems like a lot of posts have been removed...

Anyway, my case is in progress says ecase!

This thread "VIENNA OFFICE" was accidentally deleted today. It was then restored from a backup although there were some technical issues and the last 2 months of posts were not restored. Therefore I have created a separate page that contains most of the missing posts but only until November 01, 2012.

Here are the missing archived posts for your reference on one very long page:

I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Contact your local MP and ask him to inquire about the status of your application on your behalf. Good luck.

Someone told me to wait little bit more to see what is going own , but ifeel i am the only one left here from February applicants , i dont really know what to do , i dont know why Vienna doesnt reply to your email

Europe,

Do try to contact your MP like Nole73 said. It is very clever of them to say not to contact them until the average processing time is up, but if you are not going to get anywhere with them, then your MP may be able to get some answers for you.

When I called CIC 3 months ago to say that I thought my file was transferred to the wrong VO (London,UK) as we did not belong there, they ignored me. I spoke to a couple of agents and both told me that there must have been a reason for that and that they could not help me at all since my file was closed with them (sponsorship part). Supposedly this was why I was never able to log into ECAS either with my info. These agents never really bothered to try and find out why my file was not in Vienna and if there was a problem. I had a really bad feeling the whole time and wanted to contact London, but everyone said they would not reply. So I waited. Well, I should not have waited. I should have swamped them with e-mails. When I sent a case specific inquiry to London, they replied to one of my questions and ignored the big issues I advised them of. Three weeks later (Nov. 12th), we receive an e-mail from them saying that Vienna should be processing our file and they are transferring our application, but NOT to contact them for at least 8 weeks.

As horrifying as this is to me and my spouse, I hope all of you feel some comfort in knowing that at least the right VO has your file and that something will be happening in the next months, so patience and positive thoughts are all I can wish for you. Good luck. :)

@europe

Your MP can definitely help you out. I contacted my MP last week and he received a reply from Vienna yesterday - our file is almost finished, and all the documentation is complete with the exception of security, criminal and financial background checks that VO has requested from the authorities in my wife's home country (that's mandatory for all immigration applications). Once that is done, they will send a PPR so most likely there won't be an interview. Therefore, do not delay contacting your MP any longer. It might be taking longer for your hubby since there are additional military checks and that takes time. The most important thing is that he 'passed' his interview.

Please note that I've been 'In Process' since last month and they still replied to my MP despite the fact that they usually don't provide any updates until 3 months is up... just do it :)

Guys, how long after an AOR is the application supposed to go to "in process". Also, following an AOR, when is the next time we get an email from Vienna..is the when they ask for the passport or is it before that? Thanks:)

Nole73, what does MP stand for? And how do i get in touch with this person? Perhaps they can help me out as well... Because i didn't receive an AOR from Vienna even though my sponsorship was approved on October 16, a month ago...

Thanks!
