the PCC is valid for 3 months from the date printed on the PCC.

the date when you submit your final application should fall within 3 months of the PCC date.

it's up to you to get it now or wait for the letter. the general trend is the CIC letter comes in 45 days.. One receives PCC in 5-6 days.

So, if you have all the other docs ready, you can time your PCC to optimize the time taken to send documents.

In my openion PCC is alwasy valid for 6 months for each country. However, you should confirm from the issuing authority for final confirmation.

With all due respect to everybody, Please read the FAQs on your countries Canadian Consulate Web-Sites respectively. This is from my country of residents web-site. The rules are almost all the same. Don't assume.

How long is my police clearance certificate valid?

Your police clearance certificate is valid for a period of one year from the date it was issued. If the validity has expired before your visa is issued you will be requested to provide an updated police certificate from the country you are currently living in. If you have already submitted police certificates from other countries where you have not recently lived you will not have to provide an update.

How do I obtain a police certificate?

Please see the following link for details on obtaining police certificates from all countries.

I have lived in several different countries. Do I have to provide a police clearance certificate from each one?

You will need to provide police clearance certificates from each country you have lived in for a period of more then 6 months since the age of 18.

"The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application."

Maybe for the New Applicants. I am not doubting you. When we applied, this was what the requirement was. (pre-Feb2008)

Good Question.
Yes, you seem to be right. (reference EG7.PDF) page 20

The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application.

What I understand by this is, that if you obtain PCC's for any country after you have submitted your applications then you are OK. However, the CIC may still ask for a newer/latest version from the country you currently reside in and not from all countries you have been resident in.

No you are not required to submit police clearance from canada unless the visa officer has asked you to do so :

How to obtain a police certificateCanada

Do I need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence?

Only in certain cases. The Canadian visa office will tell you if you need a Canadian police clearance once your application is being processed.

thanks professional 1!!

So there's a lot of conflicting information out there.

For those who have not yet applied, the according to the most recent application guide, IMM EG7000 (07-2009), police certificates must be submitted WITH the application to the local visa office AFTER you receive approval from CIO.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/EG7.pdf

"You may begin to gather your police certificates before submitting your application to the CIO. Although you will not submit the police certificate to the CIO, you must be ready to submit them to a visa office if your application is recommended for further assessment at a Canadian visa office. When you submit the application to the visa office please ensure that your certificates were not issued more than three months before you submitted your application to the CIO.

For applicants requiring multiple police certificates, please be certain these documents can be produced at the time of the submission of your application to the Canadian visa office."

I don't think that the information is conflicting. The problem is in the interpretation as well as individual understanding.

If the validity has expired before your visa is issued you will be requested to provide an updated police certificate from the country you are currently living in. If you have already submitted police certificates from other countries where you have not recently lived you will not have to provide an update.
I just cannot imagine someone who has received a PCC for a country he has left years back to get one that is valid for 3 months only. It can only be the country you are currently residing in.

I am in total agreement with BobbyB.
However unfortunately I found a note on Buffalo's office website clearly mentioning that police certificate should not be more than 3 months old.
Now I guess it's left to discretion of visa officer to decide if this applies to the country in which you are staying currently or even to countiries you would have stayed in long time back.

I myself got into a similar situation wherein I applied for police verification while I was in US and now it will no longer be valid when I submit my application to Buffalo..:(

cheers!

Hi BobbyB
Could you give me the link to the official site where it says that your police certificate only has to be issued 3 months before submission from the country you currently reside in (UK in my case). I have been looking for it and have not found it.
It would be quite helpful to be 100% sure about it cos that way I could start requesting my US police certificates already.
