I just called the FBI and they are opening mail that was received on July 6th.

And to give you and idea of how soon they move to the next date: My postal tracking shows mine was received on July 8th, so they told me mine should be done in 3 to 5 business days.

They said I could call back in a few days and maybe that would have good news for me.

We got ours completed on July 23, and it is now Sept 14, and we still won't be able to send in our app until at least another week!!! I'm terrified of CIC asking for a new one, where we have to wait an additional 3 months. :'( :'( :'(

Unlike a medical exam, that can expire during the lengthy PR process, the FBI clearance will NOT.

As long as CIC receives it within the allotted window of time, it will be valid for the duration of the process.

Thank you for relieving me of an ongoing stresser! Thank you so much Ponga, and I apologize to everyone for the salty language...

What is the allotted window of time?

Who needs a police certificate?
In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate. You must get one from each country or territory where you have lived for six or more months in a row since the age of 18. (For example, if you lived in a country for eight months but left on a two-week vacation, that counts as living there for eight months.)

For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply.

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

Many people are confused, because both the inland and outland guides say the PCC is only good for 3 months. Yet as you showed there on the website they say it is good till it expires, or for 6 months if you are living there.

The certificate must have been issued no more than three (3) months prior to submitting your application. If the original certificate is not in English or French, then you will need to submit both the certificate and the original copy of the translation prepared by an accredited translator.

Sorry if I missed this in the "search thread" option, but do I need to get my spouses FBI check before I submit an outland application? I have started the paperwork and now see that the FBI check is a long process.

Thanks

No, you can send it later, just put a note in stating the reason it is not included. If you don't have a UCI number, I suggest waiting until AOR so you have an application number before sending it in, so they don't mix it up anywhere.

Thank you! Very helpful. Hopefully my CC will charged in the next day or 2. I am stuck in Australia so can't call them!

Do I also need to submit an FBI check if I am the Canadian sponsor but living in the US currently?

Sponsors don't require FBI checks, only the applicant needs to do this.

CIC states they don't accept "3rd party" certificates, it now must be direct from FBI.

I think they updated it around the beginning of March:

Citizenship and Immigration Canada does not accept FBI police certificates issued by FBI-approved third party private companies. Only police certificates issued directly by the FBI will be accepted.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/united-states.asp

We sent our check from a channeler in the beginning of March and they accepted it, but that could also be because we had sent 2 from the FBI several years previously and he hasn't lived in the US since.
