OMG--COPR RECEIVED! I was NOT expecting this now! We were asked on January 7 to provide the L.A. office with "proof of your sponsor's plans to re-establish in Canada" and sent what we had on January 27. I was about to check to see if anything else would be required and this came today. USPS registered mail--thank goodness that hubby was home to sign for it!

Four months and 23 days from mailing to delivery--WOW! Many, many thanks to everyone on these boards for all your help and support! I know I'll have more questions going forward and am sure I'll find answers here.

Gratefully yours :)
Congrats! :)

Pitfalls to avoid -- whichever of you two is the American citizen, don't stop filing tax returns with the IRS.

Even if you live abroad and work abroad you must file a return or they will come after you.

The other alternative, which I'm considering upon getting Canadian citizenship to avoid this ridiculous double taxation rule that shows no sign of ever changing, is renouncing US citizenship.
Thanks Bargeld.......what about declaring your Canadian spouse's income? I tried filing with free fill forms from the IRS as Married but filing Separate, and the 1040A doesn't as a thing about my hubby's income and it showed I got a nice refund. Then, I tried the IRS e-file option and it asked a lot of questions about him....and said I owed a lot. I'm confused. :-\

If you are filing separately (as you should) then you don't include his income. I've been filing married separately for years and my spouses income is never included on my taxes. So in your case you will get a return :)

Hi , I am so excited. Our status in E-CAS changed to Decision made. No request for PPR or nothing. Im not sure if I should be excited ..... hopefully everything is OK. I'm hoping coPR is in the mail...... does it usually arrive by regular mail? I'm hoping for the best....... I'm already thinking of landing. What will I need? I know about the B4 form but what else? Please let it be good news.......

Well I've seen one other case of them just mailing the COPR without a PPR. But if you haven't heard anything to indicate there's a problem, you'll likely be the second such case.

You also need your passport. That's it - passport, COPR and B4/B4A forms.

How did you order them?

If you did it via e-mail you should have received an auto-response. In that case I'd respond to that auto-response and say "where are my results?"

Well I sure hope you are right...... I'm sure they wouldn't deny without giving us a chance to provide more info???? I'm excited but also worried....

my common-law husband from the US is coming to visit me tomorrow for a couple of weeks. the thing is that e-cas has now changed to Decision Made and we have no idea what that decision is. No e-mails, no nothing. Will they tell him at the border? will they now right away when he shows up? He has been going back and forth from the US for a long time now and was never given any paperwork..... he always told them the truth that he was coming to visit me....... Any idea on what will happen when he gets to the border?

If you've heard nothing, it is most likely a positive decision. Negative decisions require additional follow-up and seldom come as a surprise.

CBSA will certainly see the decision in the computer. They would have to open the file to look further but without the COPR they cannot assist him in landing. It should not impede his ability to visit (and if anything, a positive decision means he's a low risk case)

Great. So hopefully he gets the wonderful new from the CBSA officer at the border. He will tell them that he is coming to visit me and when we receive the COPR, we will do our landing. Is it possible for him to "land" without importing his truck over right away? Can he still "land", bring his truck over and go back later to officially import it?
