I'm still waiting for SA... What are they doing there in Mississauga, twiddling their thumbs and playing 52-pickup with the applications? *sighs* Hopefully, I'll hear something after the weekend. 44 days and nothing. The call center told me Mississauga says it's still in process and not to call back until August 18th.

August? That doesn't make any sense. I would call back and let the person know that the CIC website says it should take sponsor applications 37 days and to contact CIC if you haven't heard from them in that time. Some of the call centre people are not helpful but many are. Hopefully with a call back you'll get someone who will be helpful- and hopefully you'll have your SA :)

I heard on here that it's because they can only make inquiries once every 90 days. I'm at 46 days now and someone who applied a few days before me already has SA and had their application sent to Ottawa and now has DM. It's driving me mad :p.

The problem is to get through to the call center my husband has to call at 5:30am... and with his work schedule that means he has to stay up that late. It's a pain.

To those who have some knowledge about moving an entire home from the US to Canada, I have a logistical question. Is a uhaul our best option? It seems to be the best choice financially. Providing we have all of our documents prepared for landing, a moving truck wouldn't pose an issue for the border, right? Any insight or advice is welcomed! I got DM yesterday & we aren't landing until Sept but I want to be as prepared as possible. Thanks!

Yes, assuming you have your COPR and are planning to land while your husband resettles, there generally is no issue with uhauls. just be aware CBSA will decide whether they want to search the truck or not when you are declaring your items. Also, make sure there are no issues with the uhaul company with returning the vehicle in canada when you are picking it up in the us. i'm pretty sure this is common, so they should be familiar with it.

for those who have landed or have lived in canada for a while... has anyone had experience with renting a car in canada, driving it to the us and returning it to canada? i know the mileage isn't an issue, i'm just wondering if there is any issue crossing either border with a rental car and if there is anything needed from the rental company for border crossings?

With all the correct papers, there isn't much difference. You might run a higher chance for a check of the car is all.

that's what i figured. i'm not too concerned about getting searched. i'm quite familiar with secondary at this point. do you know if "correct paperwork" includes anything specific about border crossings? i'm assuming once i say i plan to return in 4 days with the car, there won't be much problem border wise. :)

We just and I mean just landed on 29th April 2016...we drove from Virginia to Vancouver...26ft Uhaul..6 days and 3175 MILES...snow...sleet...rain..tornados...wind...single lanes through the Rockies...hubby drove and I followed behind in a 4 Runner with 2 cats a dog and my daughter...we had each and every box itemized, numbered and valued ( as advised, garage sale values)...45 pages of stuff...the only issue we had was there was not grand total, I had to add it at the Customs counter....the agent looked at us and said "I have to stamp all these pages!!!"..Gas...hotel...truck rentals and food were still cheaper then a mover ( the cheapest quote was $10K)..Just make sure you have one of the trucks that can cross the border...Canada Customs did not look at the paper work for the Uhaul but we brought it in with us...Would I do it again?...Yes but I have found that furniture is cheaper here and I would not bring our living room stuff...We also put all the "stuff" in my American hubbys name because he is the settler...I only had 10 boxes when I moved to the US so all the stuff is the hubby's...lol...if you have any questions please feel free to ask!

Hi Guys, Just wanted to update you...we got an email today with a passport request!! Still no DM on ecas but I'll take it!! Finally!!!

Question: If we send in the passport tomorrow, when do you think we will have it back? Currently in the US right now and need to be back in Canada for an event on June 25th.. Is this cutting it too close??

are you not a us citizen or visa exempt? if you are a us citizen you are visa exempt, and they just need a copy of your passport. if you are not visa exempt, expect it to take 4ish weeks. it may be cutting it close.
