Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Were you even able to?!

I recently wanted to check my `old' U.S. credit report to see what was still listed. I know that my credit there is pretty much meaningless in Canada, since information isn't shared, but...I was just curious. Well...it didn't take long to figure out that this was an impossible task if trying to do so from a computer in Canada. None of the companies that offer this service (including the one that's the official U.S. government approved site www.annualcreditreport.com) would not allow allow a person connecting to their server from an I.P. address outside the U.S. to request their report. They do allow the requester to mail in their request, to avoid the I.P. restriction, but the report will only be mailed to an address in the U.S., which isn't an option (anymore). After beating my head against the wall, I finally had to succumb to using a VPN to `fix' the problem. What a pain.

I still have a couple cards open in the US that I use for 'small' purchases every few months to keep it active. They both have monthly rating and reporting attached for free. If anyone is playing with my US credit they're doing and awesome job because I'm well over 780 LOL

Anyway, to answer your question. No. I haven't actually gone to the freecreditreport.com or anything of that like, but when I access the information via my credit card it doesn't seem to care what my IP is.

Yes, I've noticed that a vpn is needed for a few things that I still use on the US side ;)

Some other options:

These all give automatic updates, and probably present the information in a more user-friendly way than the direct source. I've only tried credit karma, but it works without a VPN.

Do they provide a copy of your credit report, or just your FICO score?

i'm pretty sure credit karma provides a report. i think it only has 2 of the 3 credit agencies on the free report? it's gives you a lot of free info. I can't remember exactly... it's been a while since i've been on. i don't remember having issues signing in while in canada. my US credit score plummeted when i moved here for faults of my own. i was happy to not have it follow me here. :)

On credit karma I see both scores and reports for TransUnion and Equifax. You don't get the raw original reports, but as far as I can tell all the information is accessible on the site.
