I am currently in the same situation but they have not asked for my passport yet. I submitted my application on the 18th no updated since. I have to leave next week as i have family member who is very ill. Can i start an application from outside Canada?

Passport received at CPP Ottawa: November 24th
Status changed to approved: December 4th
Tracker activated: December 4th
Passport received in mail: December 6th
They expedited it because I had medical certificates to prove that I had an ailing family member.

thank you for your timeline. I just copy my flight ticket and added an explanation letter with the passport together. Because I just travel to another country. I don't know if they can do my case as soon as possible. My passport arrived the same day as your passport.Applied: November 9th

Keep on bugging them! Call them and tell them your situation. Worked for me! Canada Post Xpresspost also takes several days, unlike the guaranteed 1 day delivery, so I had to bug them too!thank you for your timeline.
