Hi everyone,
I just went through the entire transcript of the discussion on C-6 which took place yesterday. It is available at this link:
http://www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?Pub=Hansard&Doc=74&Parl=42&Ses=1&Language=E&Mode=1
You may recall Mr. Borys Wrzesnewskyj (Etobicoke Centre, Lib.). He is the Chair of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration (CIMM). You know, the House Committee which held meetings on C-6.
Well, MP Wrzesnewskyj during his time on Bill C-6 during the debates yesterday, also made the following comments which sort of implied that something would be done by Canada Day 2016 - That's 01 July 2016, barely two weeks away. Any thoughts on what he meant?
This is what he actually said:
Our government, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, and the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration worked hard and diligently on this legislation. It is with pride that, this upcoming Canada Day, we will be able to declare that our Prime Minister and our government have fulfilled their commitment and under the current government, once again, in Canada, a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian.
And then again:
Therefore, people were extremely happy that under a Liberal government we delivered on our commitment. It will be a proud moment this Canada Day when in Etobicoke Centre we once again swear in new Canadian citizens and we can say, “Welcome. In Canada a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian”.
We are all (more or less) awaiting C-6's coming into effect. But look at the bright side people - we are waiting in what is probably the most welcoming country in the world.
Cheers, and chill people
