To get reference letter from supervisor notarized?

I had worked for an employer which permanently closed last year, as a result there is nothing I can do to get a reference letter with company letterhead. I did some research and found that some fellows asked their ex-supervisors/co-works to write a letter with their business card attached, and get the letter notarized, and some people did get their case approved.

Fortunately one of my former supervisor agreed to help me with the letter, but I am curious about how you guys get the notarization done. There are 2 types of "notarized" as I know, one is to let the signatory sign the document in the presence of a public notary; another is to get the soft copied document certified as "true copy." Apparently I should go with the former one, which is to get it signed under a notary's witness. But it is too much to ask my ex-supervisor to do that and I don't want to scare him away as this is my last resort... :-[

Any advice?

Completely unnecessary to get it notarized. Just make sure your former supervisor provides current contact information.

Thank you, jes_ON. This has really driven me crazy. My former supervisor is a good person but I dare not ask him to request a day-off just to visit a notary office for me.
