Hey all,

We just booked my wife's flight, as she got her passport back with visa. She will be arriving in MTL. Coming from India Now I have a few questions about her landing

1) As far as I know, she only need to bring the COPR and passport once she lands. Is there any other forms that need to be submitted to customs?

2) I keep hearing about a B4 form and have 2 copies of it, is this required? If so someone please explain this to me.

3) She is coming with two 32kg luggage's, and one 10kg carry on. What should she declare, she will be landing with lots of clothes, shoes, and gold. Should we declare all the gold and the real value of clothes and shoes etc? All of it is for personal use as she is moving from India. If so, are we going to have to pay taxes ore duty fees for her to bring all this stuff? She was going to wear most of the gold on her, while she travels and keep a little bit in her purse. Not a crazy amount but probably worth like $6-8K cdn. Mostly from wedding.

Thanks

Hey. Well once she lands she will have to go through two stages
1) Immigration. For this she needs her COPR and passport. It is very straight forward and hassle free.
2) Customs. This is where the B4 form comes into play. From my personal experience I can tell you that you only need to declare stuff of value AKA gold. So what I suggest you do (what I did) is take a print out containing photos of every item of gold plus its approximate value in CAD. Include each of these items in the B4 form. Make TWO copies of both the form and the photos
At customs, they will simply stamp both copies and keep one and give you the other. This basically means that even in the future if she wants to carry that gold in or out of the country she has a document stating that it is hers (hence duty free)
Irrespective of the value of the gold she is bringing in she will not be liable for any tax or duty so dont worry.

Good luck :)

I don't know much about outland applications, but if she's landing in Montreal, I would think she would also need her CSQ.

yes true.

If you have not explicitly applied for immigration to the province of Quebec, you may land at any port of entry to Canada that is not in Quebec. You will risk refusal if you try to land at a port of entry in Quebec without a Quebec Selection Certificate (a document that allows you to immigrate to Quebec, commonly known as a CSQ).

Also if your final destination is not QC, have your spouse have some documents showing that she is not intending on staying in QC, such as copy of your ID showing address in another province, so she can prove to the agents that she is not staying in QC. Sometimes they get very picky, sometimes they are very nice. Better be safe with some back up info. I have landed in YUL once and the CBSA agents were really unfriendly, they made me pay duty on my engagement ring, wedding ring, and my wedding dress. I travel a lot, usually through Toronto or Calgary, and never ever had as many problems as in Montreal. Because of what they did I missed my connecting flight from Montreal to Calgary, and had to stay overnight in Montreal, and pay for a new flight next day.
