Could someone please advise me how long it takes a study permit to be approved? I know the website says 12 weeks but this seems very long in comparison to other countries time- is there a particular reason for this?
I am from the UK looking to study in Montreal

Any help would be very grateful

Hey guys, my MP called Immigration today and found out good news, this morning they approved my husband for PR! After almost 14 months!
We’re ecstatic, but we haven’t heard from immigration yet. We didn’t get an update our background check had started, or received pre arrivals or decision made! Do you think this is a good sign? She said Immigration said they are processing the paper work this week and we should hear from them soon.... it’s just so hard to believe until I see it in writing I guess!

Sounds like excellent news! I was just looking at your entry on the spreadsheet the other day and wondering if you had forgotten to update us, but I see you were STILL waiting for DM - Not good that it has taken them this long. Last lap now though!

Thank you!! We haven’t heard anything from immigration yet so hopefully this week sometime

It was updated online that our background check has started. But surely this would be finished if they said yesterday they approved us, do you think? Don’t want to have to wait weeks - months now for this darn background check :-(

Hmmm... So let assume DM is imminent as the MP gave them a kick. I wouldn't worry too. ECAS and MyCIC are often lagging behind reality.

Also try not to worry about BGC timescales, yes they can take weeks or months, but they can also take days, in my wife's case, precisely two days!

@Hurlabrick You've obviously seen a lot of UK applicants go through this process so I thought I'd try and pick your brain.

So with the recent spates of CPC-M transfers and the speed in which they seem to be going through, how long without any updates would you advise I wait before maybe requesting GCMS notes?

LOL - Yes I am sure you can see a couple of others close to your timeline that went to Mississauga and now have DM and you don't. Mississauga are pretty fast. Ordering case notes will not slow anything down, nor will they speed things up, so you could order them any time. I would give it until say mid-April personally, but your call!

I know, I'm being pedantic Yeah, I think I'll give it till the end to be sure. I'm flying on the 18th under duel intent so I had my fingers crossed for COPR before then to make things easier.

Edit: I'll probably order them at the end of this process regardless so I can see the full process.

It is not impossible that you could get your CoPR before the 18th, but I think it unlikely!

It's not the end of the world, I'll just have to finalise the rest in Canada. Someone from Vienna just got their COPR with no PPR as you stated earlier in the thread. This entire process is perplexing

We got pre arrivals today! And oddly enough also a letter requesting photos again.. we got the same letter back in June which we went to a professional photographer to get done and sent them in. We re-sent them today, but have new photos booked to be taken tomorrow. Not sure why they want more

Who knows about the photos! Just send some more to the poor dears as you will get nowhere arguing about it!
