Hi! We just got the email through today asking for copy of passport and two photographs! It says for countries that do require a visa that we actually have to send off the physical passport?! What does this mean for UK passport holders now that an eTA is required to enter into Canada - does my partner have to send his passport or just a photo copy to Canada house? Thanks for you help, and sorry if this as already been answered!

So your PA is a UK citizen? Then they are visa exempt (see list here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas-all.asp). So a copy of the passport bio page is all that is required (as well as the photos of course).

Spreadsheet updated.

Congratulations! CoPR should take 2 / 3 / 4 weeks following receipt of PPR etc.

How do you know which office you ave?

My spousal sponsorship letter says I need to send a document for myself to CPC-Ottawa but they state also that for my suband his application has been sent to the appropriate office abroad? DOes that mean mine is in Ottawa nd his is in London?

Thanks

It might help to post the full text of the email here (take out personal information of course).

BUT, one of you is the Sponsor (i.e. Canadian PR or citizen) - I assume that is you. The other is the Principal Applicant who is being sponsored - I assume that is your husband.

You would originally have sent your entire spousal sponsorship pack to CPC Mississauga. It is in the Mississauga office that they assess you as the Sponsor and whether you can sponsor your husband. Once they approve you as sponsor (which is perhaps what this email is about, does it actually have the words 'sponsor approved'?), then they send your pack onto a Visa office for them to assess the Principal Applicant.

Normally, this will be the overseas visa office that deals with the Principal Applicants nationality (as opposed to where they may live), so if say they are a UK citizen, it would go to London UK. However, recently, Mississauga have been sending many such packs on to Ottawa instead - presumably due to backlogs in London.

IF the email is a Sponsor Approval email and IF they mention Ottawa, then it has been sent to Ottawa and the bit about 'local visa office' is just fixed text.

Sent application today, will let you know when we receive notification it has been received in Missisauga so we can get our information on the spreadsheet, if that's helpful at all :)

Yes please. We will need a few more details, but can leave that until your next posting!

Do you want to have your details on the spreadsheet? Very happy to add you, once you can confirm received at CPC Mississauga.....

Royal Mail tracking shows the application arrived a CIC. Not sure how long until we get notice from CIC.

Added to spreadsheet, thanks. Can you please let us know roughly where in the UK you are (i.e. nearest big town / city?). Please keep us updated via this thread.

It is usually 2 or 3 weeks before Mississauga acknowledge your application, if they do at all (not everyone seems to get a receipt - no one knows why!). Some people hear Sponsor Approved first these days!

We're nearest Manchester. Yup will try and keep you abreast.

COPR Received today (very fast I only posted it on Monday!)!! One final question(s) to the forum - we have applied under Common Law, but we are getting married in April (in Florida) and current plan is to land in Vancouver in July. Is this going to create any issues? Should my partner land before we get married (going to be tricky but not impossible)?

Also - I'm from Vancouver Island, and we might not fly via Vancouver. Can we land at Victoria International Airport? It's so tiny I didn't think they would have the facility for that but I could be wrong.

Thanks everyone for all your help answering my many questions throughout the process!!

FYI, I've written up a new FAQ over at BritishExpats that outlines the new forms. Link is in my signature. :)

Congratulations indeed! Put the champers on ice and pop the cork when the CoPR arrives - I know I did!!!

Spreadsheet updated.

Yay!! COPR arrived in the post on Saturday 11th February, although I was away in Canada at the time! but was good to come back to!! Medical has been extended until Feb 2018, but no way am I leaving it that long before I move!

I have one query, the COPR mentions two forms, but I only have one.... IMM5785 & IMM5688 -- I have the IMM5688 which is what I hand to border security when I land, but the other form is mentioned as "Electronic Foil" I'm guessing that this is an online form that Visa Office send in your electronic file and the border/immigration match that with the COPR that I have to give them???

If anyone has come across this IMM5785 issue - please advise if there is anything I need to be concerned about as I don't have it

All I need to do now is plan when I am actually going to do the move.... Wife wants me there ASAP, so hopefully looking for 3 - 4 months

thanks to everyone on the forum especially the admins, without you, we wouldn't have a clue!

According to Royal Mail my spousal application was received in Mississauga on the 10th Feb.
Took a whole 9 days to get there via 5 day international track and trace :(

Eagerly awaiting AOR1!

If the airport is called 'international', then it must surely be equipped with CBSA facilities, so you can land with your CoPR. Worth a quick phone call though I suggest.

Congratulations! Spreadsheet updated.

Relax about IMM5785. It is as you guessed nothing more than what they have set up on their systems for you as you are visa exempt. If you were not visa exempt, it would be the colourful sticker they put in your passport. Read about it here if you like:

http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Spousal_Sponsorship-Canada/FAQ_-_New_Application_Forms#The_CoPR_covering_letter_mentions_form_IMM_5785.2C_but_it_was_not_attached.__Do_I_need_one.3F

All you need is your CoPR (original and copy), passport and customs lists (goods accompanying and goods to follow) and off you go.

Congratulations! Spreadsheet updated.
