I was under the impression that you will need a PRTD regardless of whether or not you travel before 15th March, but I'd like to be proved wrong.

My flights are already booked to return after that so I have everything crossed that I get my PR card asap.

Just wanted to check something. I assume that if you were to fly in to Canada before March 15th (when ETA comes in to effect) you would not need anything other than your British passport to board a flight?

Has anyone who has recently got PR (and waiting for their card) tried to get an ETA online anyway to see if you could get it?
If you are flying back to Canada before March 15th, you will only need your passport. March 15th or after, you will need the PR card or PRTD.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta-start.asp

You cannot apply for an eTA if you are:

a Canadian citizen or a dual Canadian citizen,
a Canadian permanent resident, or
a U.S. citizen. (However, lawful permanent residents of the U.S. need an eTA if travelling by air.)

PR Card times for new applications are currently at 42 Days on the CIC website. Some people from early December are now receiving cards. We might end up being okay!

That's a big change from 100 days.

Must have been a Christmas thing. Most people I have spoken to got their cards in about 6 weeks so I'm holding out for that!

Thanks,

After getting too worried about flying back to Canada even before March 15th I've decided to do a multi city return trip. So fly back to Seattle rather than Vancouver. It's an extra 300 but at least there is no chance I won't be allowed on plane/ through at customs.

I'll probably end up getting my card before I leave!

Got my card today. That's the good news.

The bad news is that my daughter's card hasn't even gone into production yet. I have 4 weeks until we fly so I'm hoping it comes in that time.

It's coming up to about a year since lvo fist started processing our application. It was received November 24th 2014 and the processing started in March of 2015. We're getting really worried now that we haven't heard anything since our re-medical in August 2015. We have messaged cic a few times asking whether they've received our medical results, and got nothing back. We just ordered our notes again today so that's something to look forward to....

Anyone experienced the following problem: landed and went to get SIN number and been told that you are not in the system as a permanent resident? They want me to apply with a paper application for a SIN number which currently takes approximately 30 days. Was told that immigration are sometimes slow updating computer systems decided to risk it and check back in a few days to see if I am on there yet as I don't want to wait 30 days + to be able to work. Just when I thought all of this was over...

Update: eventually got hold of someone at CIC who told me that my border guard made some mistakes when I was landing and I wasn't even processed! So after much stress I am now back and forth between border services agency and CIC to get this problem fixed. What an absolute nightmare!

Good news!

After 8 weeks my COPR has arrived! On Family Day of all days.

Husband and I will be going to the border in a couple days. Should be fun!

So our MP has had a response. Success

The response was: we received application, we completed sponsor processing, we haven't started processing medical, police certificates etc. Resounding fail.

It's been over 18 months since we applied now, doesn't feel like we are ever going to get this visa!!
