Thanks, it will be London or Ottawa so I'll put it as London for now.

Not much to report Andrew. My hubby said he was just told he'd got SA and that our file was now 'in process' ( that old chestnut) I don't know which VO as we haven't had an email and eCAS hasn't changed yet but would assume it will be London because I live in the UK.

So we are in process now

Received an email asking for my partner's Norwegian police clearance on Friday and that note has been added as a line in ECAS also, so it's nice to see they kind of have their sh** together

I sent an enquiry to London as to why my SA approval still hasn't changed in Ecas. Whilst I was at it I also asked about this new ' in processing' protocol. They replied today and they actually answered me. Unfortuently, it's just like we all thought. Nothing to get excited over, they aren't suddenly looking at 3 month old applications. It literally just means that they have recieved it. Not that it's been assigned am officer, not that they have opened my application.

Official reply below

With regards to your application status in ECAS indicating it is in process, this means that your application has been transferred the visa office that will be processing your application. In your case, this is the London, UK office. However, your application has not yet entered active processing (been assigned to an officer) at the London visa office. Applications are processed in the ordered they were received at our Case Processing Centre – Mississauga. We are currently processing applications that were received at CPC-Mississauga in December 2014/January 2015. Once applications are assigned to an officer, our aim is to finalise the application within 8-12 months. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with an estimated time as to when your application may be assigned to an officer.

The fact it could take 8 - 12 months after they assign an officer is worrying. If they are working on Dec/ January then they are running at around 8-9 months before they give the file to an officer to add to their pile of applications to look at. From what they are saying it could take another 8-12 months for for them to actually look at it and make a decision! Urgh. Hopefully the officers start speeding up how long it takes them to open and finish a case.

Trying to get them to reply to an email is almost impossible. I really hope they start moving again I have waited long enough now . Notes will be here Thanksgiving weekend so hopefully there will be something on them that will indicate some kind of frame time

Hi, I have a question about medicals that hopefully someone knowledgeable here can lend a bit of advice with!

We're planning on submitting our outland common-law application via London in November (2015). I had to have a panel approved medical for another immigration process back in March (2015). My question is, as this medical will almost certainly expire during the application processing time, should I get the medical re-done ahead of submitting the application in November (the cost, time off work and extra dose of radiation aren't particularly appealing!) or leave it until they request it? I've seen reports on here of medical deadlines being lenient sometimes but this would be quite the extension!

Does anyone have any experience with this / know whether the second option will slow down the application much?

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi Abydos,

Your medical will expire in March 2015 so chances are you will need to redo your medical around that time. If you do a new medical in October 2015 and include that in your application which you send to CIC in November 2015 there is a chance you will have to redo another medical (if your visa office does not process your application before October 2016).

If I were you I would include the medical which expires in March 2015, this way if you are requested to do another medical in March/April 2015 and you do it straight away you will have until April 2017 which "should" give your visa office enough time.

Note that there is a chance that your visa office will not get to your application by March so your medical expiry date may come and go, and then later in the year you will most likely get a medical request.

Good point - I hadn't considered the second medical possibly expiring before they've processed the application, thanks andrew-brit! We'll submit with the current medical then.

We got sponsor approval! They emailed my boyfriend today with the letter, and our application is going to London (surprise, surprise). No changes in ECAS yet.

ecas shows "Decision Made" today :)

Wow, congratulations! Under a year for a non-visa exempt applicant! About 7 and a half weeks between In Process and Decision Made.

I have been IP for 3 weeks, so maybe a month to go for me?

Spreadsheet updated!

Edit: out of curiosity when did your medical expire? I noticed they never asked you to do another medical, just asked you where the PA had visited, wondering if I will get the same request.
