Haha, this x1000. That's why I usually say that if ECAS updates to reflect something then you can assume the update is accurate... but lack of an update doesn't mean that's nothing's happening, it just means something hasn't flowed all the way through to ECAS. Super frustrating!

And leaves that lingering hope that one day my COPR will just turn up in my mail box unannounced! Adds a little bit of excitement to my drive home.

Time for today's installment.... :P

Just out of curiosity did you move to the UK or Canada?

Thanks Taffy :). I've completely lost hope of receiving it anytime soon . It's been nearly a year of checking ECAS daily without a change to it. I just hope they don't drag it out much longer :(.

Good luck to you, surely with the amount of time you've been waiting you've gotta hear something soon.

Playing catch-up. Here we go.

The thing is that you don't have to MOVE before COPR expires, you just have to show up in Canada. You can leave on the next flight out. I would suggest that you stop faffing with trying to get COPR extended as it's highly unlikely that you will be extended, and you instead just get your husband to book an overnight trip there and back to activate the COPR. With your medical expiring on 3 July and with COPR being issued in May, CIC will see that as plenty of time for you to book a flight, particularly as you would have known beforehand that it was extremely likely that your COPR would only be valid until 3 July - it's no secret that COPR is only valid for one year from medicals.

So I'd suggest you just get a flight booked, get COPR activated, then come back tot he UK to sort out your affairs. Your husband can travel on his own to activate COPR, you don't have to be with him.

Sorry to sound harsh, but you don't want to mess around with it, just get something booked and get it out of the way, save yourself the stress.

This isn't news or advice. Its exactly what I meant when I wrote 'Worst case scenario we have to book a ticket last minute to Canada to activate the COPR before it expires'. Thanks for restating the same point using 200 more words.

A return ticket at this time of year is about £1k not to mention not everyone can take off for 48 hours to travel to Canada when you are wrapping up/packing up your life in your current country and still employed. That is way more of a cost and headache than chasing CIC. They've actually extended alot of peoples COPRs recently by a few weeks where medical was expiring within 2-3 months.

Congrats!

I'm not sure if COPR goes to you or your lawyer, I'd think the lawyer and then he will forward it to you, but it may arrive on your doorstep as well. You can see from the spreadsheet that COPR can arrive anywhere from a week to two months after you get DM, so just keep an eye on things. Give your lawyer a heads-up that your ECAS has changed to DM.

You can start making your plans to get to Canada now - the expiry date on your COPR will be important to note. Your original medicals had already expired, did you have any correspondence with CIC discussing extended medical dates? Be prepared for a quick turnaround, just in case they haven't given you much time to activate COPR. As with the above poster, remember you don't have to MOVE before the COPR expiry, you just have to activate.

Yes CIC contacted us to ask few questions regarding my travel history since the original medical was done in London. We provided answers and few weeks later the status changed to "medical results received". I guess I will just have to inform my lawyer regarding "decision made" and wait it out. FYI - I am currently in Toronto, Canada on visitor's permit. If the package is delivered to my lawyer here in Canada, do I have to fly back to London to activate my visa?

We've just heard back from London visa office and they are going to extend our medical/COPR.

Phew.

You don't have to fly back to London, you just have to leave Canada at any border, so if you're in Toronto, easiest is probably going to be to drive down to Buffalo. You can either make a weekend trip of it (You'll need to sort out visas for the US), or you can just go to the border and request to flagpole - it means you'll officially leave Canada, but you won't be admitted to the US - it's called an "administrative refusal", and is NOT a "refused entry" - they are different! It just means you left Canada but did not enter the US - you basically hung out in "no man's land" and then re-entered Canada as a PR. So you can do that, or you can make a weekend trip of it and actually go into the US, or you can fly anywhere else and enter Canada. You can also request an appointment at a CIC office but not all offices do it and some have lead times for appointments of 2-3 months. If you do a search for 'flagpoling', or read the wiki article on BE on flagpoling, you'll find tons more info. :)

Not overly surprising given your timeline; London's more recent emails said they are processing applications that they received in June-July 2015... yours didn't make it there until November... so it sounds about right. At least you know now, though! Send them an email in about 6ish weeks giving them a heads up about your medical. May not do squat but worth a shot!

Yeah I wasn't expecting anything either. Just wanted to waste $5 and see how GCMS notes look like ;).

Hmmm so I could contact about medical? I will consider your advice :). I am hoping they will extend it to another year since it says there is nothing that would prevent admissibility to Canada.

Yep, about a month ish before your medical expires, just drop a case-specific enquiry via the web form, include your file info, and say "just FYI my medical expires in a month, please let me know if I will be required to do a second medical" or something along those lines. Chances are you'll just get a canned response back, but it's worth a shot as it's contact them with something legitimate as opposed to just saying "hey dude what's up with my file". :)

Andrew - Yes, thanks for the correction on that! Should have been 2014. :)

Wow are they ever backlogged :(

Hi Everyone,

I wrote a question about this a few weeks ago which someone kindly replied with a plan and I now need to activate the second part.

My wife who is sponsoring me sent off the forms under her maiden name as her passport had not yet been changed to my surname. Someone advised we write to CIC with the new passport details once we receive SA and get a new passport.
She just got a new passport with her new Surname so we just need to write to CIC and send them her new passport details and that her surname has changed. Our application got sent on to London, should we be sending a letter to them or Miss?
Is there a generic address? Could we just update the details online? I assume not because they'll want a new scan of the passport.

Any help much appreciated. Thank you
