My husband applied to renew his visitor visa and we just got confirmations today that it has been extended for a year. With the application we submitted proof that all fees were paid for PR, sponsorship approval letter, and proof of funds. We did not submit proof of a return flight. We submitted the application a month before his visitor visa was due to expire but you can submit it up until the day before it expires.

Excellent, that's all I needed to hear. Thanks!!

judester, I cannot reply to your PM as your inbox is full. I hope you get this message. I updated the spreadsheet with your SA info.

An update from my MP's office. They contacted CIC-Ottawa who in turn spoke to London and were told that they have not started my background checks or anything, that it will be 11 months until they reach a decision. They said the Islamabad backlog is mostly cleared up. CIC-Ottawa did comment that they were surprised my app went to London, not sure what to read into that.

What else... They said my medical is good until August 30th so if they have not reached a decision by then they might extend it which I already knew.

So 11 months it is folks.

I'm so sorry :(

It must be incredibly frustrating especially when someone like myself doesn't do everything correctly and by the book and still gets (presumably) a favourable answer before yourself, or someone like your self who followed all of the steps exactly as they should have been done.

Don't worry Kettle, we will all get there in the end.

And never feel that you are responsible for getting your application quicker than other people. CIC is solely responsible!

I still feel guilty about it. Its quite the system.

Would you guys advise flying out of Canada to cross the border or driving across for COPR? My understanding is if my other British half is here he'll need to re-enter Canada to finalize everything. We're 13 hours from the border, but don't mind taking the trek :)

Choose whatever you are comfortable with. A flight would be the quickest but it would also be more expensive than the gas. Both processes should be the same, except at an airport there would probably be more people landing as a PR, activating visas, than there would be rocking up to a land border at a random time of the day.

You can also try calling your nearest CIC office and see if you can get an appointment to land at the office, but usually doing it at a border is less faff. As for flying vs driving... your call, really, on which you want to do!

Don't feel guilty it is what it is .... Do what ever is more comfortable and cost effective for you ...

Ohr consultant has emailed for additional photos. Two.
They also mentioned that they needed other documents, and did not specify what was needed. I'm assuming it was dealt with on their end. As they said all we need from xxxxxx is two original photos and listed the requirements.

Just keeping folks updated, definitely trying not to go on and on.

(editing typos sorry, writing from my mobile device)

Andrew,

I am also following the Islamabad thread, and there are people whose files were transferred end of August/September, and they have already heard back either for additional documents, re-medical, and/or passport requests. I wouldn't be surprised if you hear back in the next couple of months. Sending you positive vibes! ::)

Perhaps they said 11 months is because they don't want to be contacted again for awhile. Who knows!

I wish it was based on first come first serve. It seems like they randomly pick up files. Or maybe some VO's are faster than others.

Spreadsheet updated.

I sent a case specific inquiry last week (at the same time as contacting our MP) and I got a response! Here it is for those interested:

Your application is currently awaiting officer review.

The processing time is calculated from the date the complete application for sponsorship was received at the Case Processing Center (CPC) in Mississauga to the date the final decision was entered by the Visa Office. The posted processing times are based on the time required to process 80% of the cases over a period of 12 months and are updated quarterly. Therefore, they are historical processing times. They reflect the average processing time for the files that were finalized during the period of reference, but, at times, they don’t always accurately reflect the expected processing time for files that are entering processing.

In February 2014, the Family Class caseload from Islamabad was transferred to London. At the time of transfer, the processing time in Islamabad was 32 months. The files from this large inventory received from Islamabad formed the large majority of cases processed by London in 2014. Accordingly, as these much older files were finalized in London, the time elapsed since the applications were initially submitted had a major impact on the calculation of the London processing times, even though they had been in London only for a few months.

To give you a better sense of the expected processing time for new Family Class applications received in London, we are currently putting into active processing the applications where the date received in CPC-Mississauga is between June and August, 2014.
