I have a weeks vacation to take and was thinking about going to visit my husband in Canada for a week with my daughter....just wondered if this will cause problems at the border with our application already in. Would I have to declare dual intent even though it is only for a week? Has anyone taken a vacation to see their spouse during their application and had any problems?
Dual intent in your case would refer to a situation in which you are visiting, but you also have the secondary intention of staying if the PR application is approved. Since that wouldn't be the case for you, you'd only be visiting, dual intent would not apply, it would simply be a normal visit.

I can't imagine it causing a problem. I think you'd just have to show them the usual, e.g. return ticket, and answer the usual kinds of questions they sometimes ask about what you do back home and whatnot.

To be honest when I was entering with dual intent the border officer so quickly set about stamping my things that I barely had a chance to disclose the PR application stuff before he did so. I did of course, but it seems like I easily could not have bothered. I think it would be a good idea to disclose your application so they have all of the facts available.

you'll be fine. you're visiting your husband for a week and probably have a return ticket for it, and you're not dual intent as you do intend to return to Canada. As deficient says - you can choose to let them know that you have a PR application in process, but I don't think it will change anything.
Enjoy your holidays!

My case should be simple too! I've lived in Canada for 22 yrs, then moved to the UK in 1998 and lived here ever since. I've got dual citizenships and been working as a Air Traffic Controller and have no criminal records at all! Got a speeding ticket a few yrs ago! My wife, whom I am sponsoring has lived here all her life and also is a professional with no medical problems or criminal history. Both our children are dual citizens of Britain and Canada, daughter 6 and son 2...such a simple case and should have been delt with ages ago. I am pleased for everyone who are obtaining COPR's but finding it fusterating July applicants are being processed a head of June applicants. Please July applicants do not think i'm not happy for you!! Its just fusterating they can't do one month at a time, i'm sure if they did, things might be efficient and far more expeditous. Damn you London VO!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Hey Herjeet,

it's frustrating indeed! and I can't understand why it's taking so long for you ( and a few other people as well). I hope you'll hear next week, of course it would be best before you arrive in Canada, but you still have more or less a month, so you'll be fine! and coming into Canada without a COPR for me was easy ( now I'm in Canada and waiting for it, the wait is actually more difficult I find, because it limits so much what I can do here - so even if it's nice to be here, it's also more frustrating than when i was in Europe - at least for now!).
Good luck, and enjoy the week end,
Sweden

How did you get an applicant's UCI number. I am extremely concerned I have never had an UCI number of my own, I have always used my wife's details. When we were sponsor approved the receipt gave her a UCI and a Rec No. Never has any paperwork or E-mail given me a UCI. >:(

I only have his UCI number because he needed to do a follow up with medicals. ::) I

Thanks Bonitanita, I was just concerned because everybody who posted recently seemed to have a UCI no. Since somebody updated the spreadsheet with exceptional circumstances and those in and around me are starting to get processed, your case worries me a lot. I hope it is down to the fact that my stage 1 was quick but I see others who applied later starting to receive 2nd stage confirmation. Maybe it is my medicals are about to expire that is the hold up but other than that our case is relatively straight forward, been together 7 years and married for just over a year. I have not lived outside the U.K ever, nor have I been out the country more than 6 months ever, I have only lived in 2 places since I was 18 and my employment history is straight forward, with no criminal convictions. So background checks should be relatively straight forward. I just can't fathom what is going on and why almost all applicants have heard something be it good or bad within 100 days.

*sigh*

I don't know what to say to you. My case worries me a lot too. I can't wait til monday so that I can call and follow up.

I hope you hear something soon!!!

Hi R151NG5UN,

I am the applicant and I am able to log in to eCas using my own details as I previously had a visa in Canada and as such I still have a client ID number. I would assume that this is the case for some of the people being able to access eCas.

Thanks guys I understand better now, you all have a file number/ UCI number because you all have had some form of visa you have had to apply for, makes sense. IF they do ask me for a medical furtherance that is the point I will be given a file number to match new medicals with the file. Hopefully they will grant an extension but not really seen anybody in the same set of circumstances. I heard if you do a 2nd medical off your own back without being requested it disrupts your file badly. Apparently you have to wait for them to request you do a 2nd medical and then that is the point I should be issued with a file number.

Sure, plus there is some consideration from CIC when applications are only over a year by a month or two is what I have understood from these forums.

Thanks James,

Yeah I heard the same thing, I guess I will find out soon enough lol. :P

We initially had trouble logging into ECAS as well, they really don't make it as simple as they should. When I was approved as sponsor, the email I received had both the UCI and the application number.

As the sponsor, I can log in using my details and the UCI but not the application number.

As the applicant, my partner can log in using his details and the application number but not the UCI.

And neither of us was ever able to login using the Receipt number.

Hi all.

It's been ages since I wrote anything on here. Not since I found out I was approved as my husband's sponsor back in July.

Anyway. Just feeling super frustrated with waiting at the moment! Thought I would have a little vent to those who understand!

While I don't doubt my husband will get approval, we both just want to know! We've set February as his month to move to Canada. I will see him next at Christmas, when I fly over to the UK to celebrate it with him.

And so we wait. And wait. And wait!

A friend recently sent me this video and it's and oh so true depiction of long distance relationships! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AtlJsuR5gc

Anyway I hope to see some movement and good news on here soon!

my file was transferred to London on June 11th and in process since October 5th, today I see ECAS showing my home address as Canada for the first time, although the status remains as 'in process'. I take it as a good sign.

Good luck to you!

yes! that's great sign indeed - most people that got their address updated to the Canadian one (without them asking for it to London office) meant that their visa was ready to be issued, or issued as well... so hopefully you'll hear good news very soon! fingers crossed for you.
Good luck!
