This might sound a little dumb, but are service Canada and Service Ontario the same thing? I found a Service Ontario place near me so I was wondering if we can go there when the time comes.

not dumb- I had the same question . Service Ontario deals with everything that is provincial (typically health care, employment services etc) and Service Canada is the federal equivalent. SIN is a federal service, so you'll need a Service Canada one ( but usually they are close to each other, sometimes in the same building).

They are different and deal with different things. I can't remember the differences but I do remember that, as an example, you get your health card from one but not the other. But you get your SIN from the other one! You just have to check their site and that you're going to the right one for that service...

once you get the COPR, you go to the border with your passport, flagpole and land as a PR. Make sure that your passport is STAMPED with the date, as well as the COPR. Then with passport and signed COPR, you go to any Service Canada, and then can issue the SIN. You'll get the SIN card in the mail 10 days later, but you get the number right away, so you work the same day if you want to. The PR card comes about 35 days later.

WOW exciting then.. it is basically the end of the line hopefully.. :'(

Still a bit of paranoia is still in the air that something may go wrong after DM, but i have to think positive.
ITs hard to believe that they have 9 months as a guideline online and it seems to take around 6-7 now. even shorter for some maybe.

9 months is the time it takes to process 80% of the applications, so a lot of people are done before that... but yes - once you have DM, it's rare that something goes wrong... so it IS the end of the tunnel!

Guys!!!

I just got my COPR, i did it all via a lawyer so she emailed me now saying that they are shocked at how fast it all was etc.. i told them " i told ya so" so i just have to follows instructions and get landed and activate my residency status!! WOOT WOOT!!
But they were shocked that they didnt request any information from me etc.. so if you sent a full complete application its 3 months faster than usual!!
So mine was received August 3rd or 4th 2012 and Today i received COPR!
Happy days!! and 1 Week from DM to COPR Monday to Monday!

Questions:

1. Additional Info for history from 18 years was requested. I emailed it to them using the inquiry system at ECAS - was this the way others sent theirs? I could not find any other email system that allowed case specific info.

2. I also changed my address in ECAS but it has not been updated...anyone with experience with this/

3. Finally - How do I get a record of activities on my file - read some of you requested it...

Yup! Totally different. Anything Federal Related (such as tax, citizenship, SIN numbers) is Service Canada, and anything Provincial (Driving License, Health Services) is handled at Service Ontario (or the equivalent in your respective province).

One of the things you'll find different is the layers of government here. Provincial government has jurisdiction over loads of things here, with the exception of foreign policy, immigration, and income tax being held by the Federal Government.

Yeh my name is not common in the slightest! So it just seems random that mine is taking so long. Dawlphin on here got asked for the exact same form (travel history) 5 weeks after I did and got her acceptance over a week ago. I'm sure I can't be the only person that has done some travelling but what can you do other than just keep waiting...

Michty6 - I have been travelling for the past 6 years for my job - different city/country pretty much every week. Wondering if that is what is holding mine up too, however they haven't requested any extra information for me yet. I tried to include as much proof/explanation as possible for my travel history. Looks like I too, could be joining the 300 club soon At least I get to read everyone's stories here to help with the waiting!
