Welcome, and good luck! It sounds like you're in a similar situation as my wife and I. I'm Scottish, she's Canadian and we've been living together in the UK for most of that time (aside from a period of waiting while we waited for a UK visa for her! I'm hoping that both our cases will be fairly straightforward given the length of our relationships and what not. It's not an easy business falling for someone of a different nationality. You'd think it would be simpler given the ties that bind us culturally. I mean, my wife is more Scottish than I am practically given that her family are mainly Gaelic speakers from Cape Breton! Anyway, best of luck to you! It sounds like you've put in a pretty solid application.
Thanks for the nice welcome! Nice to know someone is in a similar situation as us. Married to a Caper! Some good oysters out that way. I'm trying to figure out if this is a good time of year or a slow time to apply? We are in that frustrating situation of trying to time the selling of our house with getting the status and moving to Canada. We just cant tell if it's going to be two months or a year! I wish there was more detail available.

COPR IN THE POST TODAY
Oh my goodness! Okay here's the story, my e-cas moved to 'Decision Made' on the 14th January. After my medicals were extended (some time after this), it was sent to me. I got it today by registered post, meaning it required a signature. The COPR says the issue date was the 11th of January.
What was in the envelope?
Answer -
1. My COPR which is one page with all of details, my photo, sponsor's details, etc.
2. A six page letter stating what happens next, plus the date I must land by (five months from now), general information about provincial healthcare, employment in Canada, what I can bring to Canada via a website link to Customs Canada, the interview and landing process and a few other things.
3. My receipt of the Permanent Residence fee that I paid for, just before I sent off my visa back in February 2012.
4. And this is probably just me - A copy of my visitor visa I had a few years ago - I don't know why! I've had other visas over the years for Canada!

So there it is! I've got my COPR, I'll look at flights now and decide when to go. I'm happy and sad and every emotion all wrapped into one! It's a great feeling though! This has been in the works for 11 months or so, not to mention the year or so beforehand collecting information and evidence.
All I can say is, it is very tough, stressful, annoying, wonderful, amazing and honestly just splendid. Good luck to everyone. I will be online every so often to answer any questions. Thanks all. It's only 3.30pm, I think I'll have celebratory drink though! :p
yeah!! congrats on completing the process, quite a long and tedious one, and so many emotions!
GOod luck on the move to Canada!

Hey Danny,

Welcome to the London thread! and yes - the process is stressful.
No change on ecas- that's very common! :) my application was "application received/medicals received" for the whole time, until one day it turned into "decision made" - end of the process.
Since your file was transferred in October 2012, it might be a little early to get news, but possible - see in the spreadsheet in my signature about average processing time in London.
You should not do a medical again unless you are asked for by London. Medicals can indeed be extended if they expired and it's the only thing preventing the office from issuing a visa. So don't do anything - your file might be almost done, and you might not need the second medical. WHo told you that it could be extended - the doctor, or London office? If it's London Office, then it's probably rather good news because if it appears to be an option to the, it means that they are getting ready to issue your visa and might have asked for an extension already.

For extension of medicals - you won't be informed. CIC takes the decision and does the procedure internally, so the only way you will find out about it is if your PR is issued and you haven't been asked for a new medical.

As you can see - it's a lot of "might, could, maybe" in my sentences, as the process is not very transparent. But in any case - you're within the normal processing time, so nothing to worry about, it's all good so far!

Good luck,
Sweden

Thank you DGT!

I submitted my application on the 07th November 2012, and my husband has recently been approved to sponsor me as of the 16th January.

Then last week, my medical results were received and my file was transferred to London.

It is all very exciting, just not sure how many other stages I have to go through.

It is great to see other people's process/ progress too.

Cheers!
How many stages - well there is officially only stage 1 ( Mississauga) and stage 2 (in London for you) - and you might not get any information during the London process... quite a few people go from "Application received" to "decision made" without communication from London, and just get the COPR in the post one day...
Good luck!

Oh yeah, the seafood is phenomenal! Probably the best I've ever had! I feel your pain with the vague nature of the waiting times. It was easier for us in a way because we don't own a home, or even that much stuff. Just a few boxes and our cat! I came over with her when she came in November (she had to rush away for a job even though we only applied in October), and I was going to go home in January (today in fact!), but I couldn't face the absence (again!) so I'm staying here! With any luck, as Sweden says, there will just be the two stages, and you're already done 1! It doesn't sound to me like they'll need an interview either (touchwood!). Keep us posted!

Hey, where in Cape Breton is she from? Im Canadain, living in Scotland for 3 years now with my husband and two children! I seen Cape Breton and I got this ridiculous smile on my face! :)
Hehe. She's from Port Hawkesbury originally, but mainly raised down on the mainland in Colchester County. It's an amazing part of the world, but we're in Toronto now 'cause she's more of a city person! Me, I'm happy anywhere in Canada. You grow up with an automatic reverence and connection with Canada if you're raised in Scotland! Where in Scotland do you call home?

Well if they told you that they can extend your medicals, then it's good sign, as they only extend the medicals if it's the only remaining thing preventing them to issue the COPR. So you're probably quite close to the end! Background checks might take a little longer as you are in the Army, but maybe they've done that already, and you're cleared. You'll probably have your PR way before September!
Fingers crossed,
Sweden

Hi guys,

So I just need a bit of advice. I had planned to take a short trip home to Ireland and come back and land as PR after I receive my COPR here in Canada.
I'm currently on a visitors visa and haven't been working since June so I'm basically sitting around waiting for my PR to come through.

I have thought seriously about heading home now and waiting out the PR process back in Ireland which would mean that I would get to spend some quality time with my friends and family, some of whom I haven't seen in over a year. This means I could be there for 2/3/4+ weeks. I would book a one way to Ireland and then book a one way back to Canada to land as a PR and go back to work. The COPR would come to my lawyers office here in Ottawa and my hubby would then FED-EX it to me in Ireland overnight or whatever. (I don't want to go changing my mailing address now and because we have a representitive I don't want to complicate anything at this stage).

I can't see any reason why I couldn't do this, it wouldnt effect my application in anyway and sure it's just like I'm going on holiday. I just would rather spend this time visiting family and distracting myself than driving myself crazy here not working and not doing much.

Surely there wouldn't be a problem with me doing this?

Nope - you're good to go! seems like a good way to spend your time instead of feeling stuck in Canada waiting for the COPR... you can even book a return ticket to Canada if it comes cheaper, as you can always enter as a tourist if the COPR is not here on time. AS long as there is somebody to receive the COPR for you, and send it over, then it's all good.
Enjoy Ireland, friends and family!

I knew you would know Sweden. Thank you for putting my mind at rest. I am excited for the first time in a long time!
I've emailed our lawyer to triple check too! ;D
