Any useful tips that you could give me for my application?

Start looking now for all physical evidence of your time together and start to note it down and keep it safe if you haven't already. Originals are best. The earlier you start, the quicker it will be to complete the application forms.

Examples of some of the things you may need are;

  • Flight tickets/stubs/itineraries
  • Hotel or trip bookings
  • Photographs of trips together
  • Cards/letters sent to each other
  • Telephone records/MSN chats/SKYPE logs

Ensure you have dates as accurate as you can get them..

Good luck with the collecting!

Been five years...i guess stupidity never thought about saving everything.

Though good thing i kept all his letters and their original envelopes, i still have the e-tickets of my trips and i could always photocopy the pages of my passport to show the admittance stamps i have travelling there, have photographs of our time together. I have cards that he has sent me.

Online chat logs? My computer constantly cleared and kept "safe" from all viruses and unneeded things ~ such as chat logs are normally deleted with every scan i do and cleaned up of the computer i do :( That a little bad.

But i will have my wedding certificate at that time too ~ so that should help a bit.

Oh well ~ wish me luck. I will be rounding up all the evidence i possibly can.

Yep, we used immigration stamps too to backup the e-tickets and itineraries and in some cases, in lieu of them.

The longer the relationship, the harder it is to rescue old evidence, i'm sure the visa officers would take those factors into account, just handy to know in advance to start collecting from now on!

Chuie sounds like you have about the same amount of evidence as i had from my 5 year relationship :P Do you have any emails? if not start sending some now! Lol, it's super difficult to find any old info but as they say if the relationships genuine and you fill everything out right you *shouldn't* have any trouble lol

In 5 years we saw each other 4 times before moving in together for a year (then applying) and after we moved in together we had no proof, his name went on one bill, and that was pretty much it lol i was stressed they weren't going to believe it happened...but it all worked out for us :) If you want a copy of my inventory gimmie a shout and i can PM it to you :)

after we moved in together we had no proof

Same here lol. My wife moved to the UK to live with me last year and from that point on we have virtually no evidence other than photographic that we are in contact! Fortunately we have bank details for her that list the same address as me!

That's really useful, I never thought of that. We got married in the UK and my Canadian husband came and lived with me at my house for almost a year and other than putting him on the Council tax I didn't put him on any other bills, so didn't really have any evidence, but I do have his Canadian bank statements that show his address the same as mine, even now that he's back working in Canada.

Just another thing for the great big pile of papers!

Yeah once you move in together it gets kinda hard to prove, his name was on bills but it was my bank account paying them so it was all just a bit complicated ^^;

Hi! Does anyone know how long it is currently taking between sending off medical/police docs and getting a passport request from the London office ??

cheers, lizzylou

I'm getting all the medical and police docs before I even send it all for sponsorship approval. Have you not done that?

Can I get a moblie phone from England and use it in Canada? I know it'll have to be tri-band, but want to know if I can buy a SIM card from Canada and use it in the English phone.

Yes you can use a Canadian sim card, as long as your phone is unlocked :)

Hi Mandi,
sorry what I should have asked was roughly how long is it taking for them to process the medical/police checks.. I was guessing at least a few months... I am going for a new medical tomorrow and am still waiting for the police certificate to be processed in the UK ( I currently live in Canada) then eventually I can get it all sent off to London before my 60 days are up ;)

As far as i've seen no canadian phones use SIM cards... it's all built into the phones. You could keep using your english/phone and SIM if you wanted but it would rack up costs and nobody in canada would call long distance to talk :P

You should have done your medicals and police docs before applying and included it in your application, or are you asking about them requesting new ones? ???

Edit:: sorry just read your timeline there, so i'd guess it is a new request :P I don't think there's much of an 'standard time' between the submission and the request for your passport, perhaps ask on a seperate thread if anyone else in the same situation? Good luck tho, n fingers crossed it wont be too long!

You can get a sim in Canada, I have a Fido sim (pay as you go) that i use in my unlocked English phone when i go over for trips. The phone needs also be at least a tri-band though i believe.

But Silver is also correct, many contract phones are hard-wired to the network, my wife's Telus B-berry is... so i'm not sure if you can get a contract sim. Mine, as i mentioned above, is PAYG.

Sorry for the confusion ??? yes our file is back in for reprocessing after a successful appeal... we first applied in June 2008, hopefully wont be much longer now ! thanks for the advice x
