Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

I'm going to mail off our application later tomorrow. Couple questions:

1) What happens after? Do we get a call/email from them?

2) My wife did her medical in June of this year. If processing time is 11 + 2 months, does that mean she will need to re-do the medical?

3) We just got our FBI/Chinese police checks. They will expire in 3 months. Does this mean that we will need to keep re-ordering these checks?

1) Once Mississauga approves you as a sponsor, they will send a letter stating so, and will forward your application to Buffalo. I don't remember if the letter was by mail or email, but it definitely was not a phone call.

2) and 3) It is difficult to know if they will require you to redo the medicals and reorder the police certificates or if they will issue an extension. You could wait until Buffalo has your application and check with them, or you can call Mississauga and speak with one of the agents to see if they have any input. I'd be most worried about the police check, since it expires so soon.

This includes all the forms, the medical copy 2, the police/FBI checks, the receipt, all the documentary evidence of our relationship (photos, photobooks, emails, skype call logs, etc.)? Sorry, I just want to be completely sure before I send everything off as I do not want to screw this up.

And as for the police checks, you guys don't order an FBI check every few months do you? I mean, the wait in Buffalo is apparently 11 months. I can't imagine ordering one every few months and sending one to them. When does the time begin? Is it when they start reviewing your app (which could have a wide range), or is it when the app arrives in Buffalo? The other thing is, would I need to get ANOTHER police check from China (where she lived for two years)? SHe left in December 2003 and has been back only once for a two week vacation and she has no intention of going back. Thus it seems stupid to have to get another Chinese police check.

You only need to send one set of police checks at the start of the application unless CIC asks for them specifically. The police checks needs to be within their 3 month validity when your application package is received at Mississauga.

And yes you need to include everything in the initial package to Mississauga. The package is checked for completeness and if something is missing they will send everything back to you to correct, causing delays. Once they approve the sponsor then they send everything they need to Buffalo (or whatever your overseas visa office is).

Anyway, stupid question: why do we need to provide immigration photos upon getting PPR when we already sent 4 immigration-sized photos along with our application?

Not to mention the 4 or 5 that we already supplied when doing the medicals (this was a bit of a surprise...)

So many photos... At least in Canada photo shops know what size a PR card photo is supposed to be!

True, although I recall 2 max that I supplied for my medical.....

And you're right about that, no one is familiar with those specs in the U.S.....that's why I just use those websites where they already scale the photo down for you. Saves money too. I haven't had Buffalo catch on just yet but we'll see.

Not to mention the 4 or 5 that we already supplied when doing the medicals (this was a bit of a surprise...)

Still Waiting, Wrote a letter to my MP three weeks ago....have heard nothing back. I just want to get our lives started. I really feel like our application was lost... :'(

It's buffalo-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca , and honestly, I wouldn't bother with any form letter. I know this sounds like what you should do with a formal situation such as a PR application, but I think these people don't even have time to read a sentence let alone a letter.
