You can get a file number before being in process. I got my AOR (File number F##) from Buffalo on April 27, and my e-cas still says "Application Received Feb 2"
However, I emailed them last month, and they said it's in process !

@sparkle: Hello, to what email can you send your inquiry?

My wife is sponsoring me from Quebec and I guess the whole Canada Post is delaying everything as we are still awaiting my CSQ.

Have a good day to all.

All their contact info is here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions/buffalo.asp

Use either the Case Specific Enquiry form at the bottom, or their General Enquiry email address. I personally never got a reply from the form, but did get one from using the email address. Your mileage may vary.

that is where our MP is from, and his name was Bob .....??? I don't remember, but was very helpful, and they have dedicated people for such a job. I think if people write to them saying something is wrong with the post November group then they may be able to inquire about it, especially before they go on vacation.

Hi avon and other friends,

I am not a Family Class applicant but a FSW one.I have got similarities with you in this respect that I have also done meds in Oct 2010 and still waiting for my PPR.My brother who is a Canadian Citizen wants to contact his local MP and/or Immigration Minister on my behalf to get exact status of my case and if possible get it finalized before the expiry of med results. Please advise which will be the better option for my brother to contact, his MP or Minister ,or is there any harm in contacting both?My VO is London.

Any advices ???

Thanks for your time

First, congrats palamr that is wonderful news and hopefully we will have more.

@ people - I looked on the cic website and it appears that fsw processing time is 14 months which is down from something like 49 months from a few years previous. Which is good news, and from what I understand the computer issue that affected Buffalo has not crossed the Atlantic.

I contacted a government agency that was acting on my behalf, and it appears that Buffalo is aware of the issue which is great news. I was told that the computer system is fully operational, and they are plowing through the applications. There would be a delay of a few months for our applications during the specified timeline. The agencies internal metrics have also validated that there is a delay with our applications. We just got caught up in bad luck. We all want to be reunited with our wives/husbands/children. According to my calculations, we are for Nov 20th to March 1st running around roughly 15% PPR completion, and we should have been close to 50%. I hope that improves. However, I don't know if the new system uses the old system's same In Process guidelines then add 3-5 months to your date to get an approximation of PPR.

Regarding the political questions, the wonderful thing about Canada is that no political officer can move your place in line, that is the law. They have to address all the other people in line before you. If your brother who is a canadian citizen wants to advocate to the MP of his rider, than he should participate in the democratic process that he is entitled to. He should also expect that once the MP runs for election, the representative will also elicit his vote and possible campaign contributions. You can also apply for CAIPS notes to find out where you are in the immigration process, and that has been documented many other places.

For Buffalo, I am still surprised that there is only 51 employees handling such a huge workload, and hopefully the new system will make it easier for them, but if not I also hope that they get the resources(people) to help reunite all the families on this forum which is the highest priority for the immigration department. I also hope that by letting the MP's know this gets them the resources to handle our cases and the ones after us in the most expedient fashion.

One other thing that comes into play is their is a seasonality towards immigration. Ie. if only 10-15 people take vacation when their children have it, and when the weather is nice - that would mean a workforce reduction of 20-33%. That has an impact on processing speed. The other issue is that there is a quota system for spots that FSW's get, and when those run out for the year, then from what I understand IO switch to working on family class applications. When you read the threads from this you realize that last summer was slow and the fall really picked up. This helps my own expectations, but maybe since the system has been changed they are working even harder to finish cases, but my guess is that our timelines are later, they are going to make a push on our applications as those timelines are more imminent and finish the timelines of people who are about to go over the stated buffalo timelines.

Well I emailed my MP today which happens to be Jason Kenney and as we all know he Is incharge of Immigration so lets see what he has to say if anything.

Calgary Bound - thanks, and I hope you let him know that there is a problem with the November through February group. Much appreciated. :) :)

Hey! Send me a msg on facebook and let me know what you hear. I was thinking about sending something to him even though he's not my MP, he's pretty darn close lol. Good luck!!

Dear Mr.*******

Thank you for your email.
In order to assist you I would appreciate your completing the attached consent form and sending it back to me by return email.
Could I ask that you also provide complete contact information for yourself, address, phone numbers, etc and for your wife as well here in Canada.

I look forward to assisting you in due course.
Kindest regards,

Well I emailed Jason Kenney's office this morning and they responded with this this afternoon. So I will fill out this form they sent and send all the info and see what they say.I will also mention the Nov-Feb group also when I respond.

Can someone post a generic letter, explaining the situation with the apparent backlog for Buffalo applicants from Nov-March so we can all just copy paste fill in details and mass send it to all our MP's?!?!?!

Maybe a big sudden push of inquiries from a bunch of MP's would light a fire under our VO's asses.

*sigh*

Feel free to change for your particular case. How is this....

Dear Mr./Ms. MP,
I wanted to inform you that I am a Canadian citizen in your constituency, and I have been following your career. I appreciate what you have done for our community.

I am getting in touch with you because my spouse has applied to come to live here as a permanent resident. We applied in date 2010/2011. Like many individuals, we are stuck because there was a recent computer change for all the US offices that caused a delay in the processing of our application. I am bringing this to your attention because I am afraid that we will be separated much longer than originally anticipated. By contacting you, I hope you are able to assist me, and also the large number of people that applied from November 2010 to February 2011 and earlier that I fear are also delayed. Specifically, I hope that you can allow Buffalo to hire more people for their very heavy workload, and/or there is concerted effort made so that families can be reunited sooner to avoid the system (computer changes) from affecting us. Your help is much appreciated, and I know that you will do everything you can to reunite our family.

My information is the following:
Name:
Address:

Spouse's Name:
DOB:
Immigration File Number:

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Name

Sounds like a good letter avon but I think I would include October 2010 since my friend Rinnerz applied then and is still waiting.
Wishing all of you luck for the processing time to be quicker. :)

Yeah, I really feel for Rinnerz, and hope that she is the first person who gets the PPR. It appears that they lost her UAE police report, and she was stuck in our group that has seen almost no movement for the last 6 months. Hopefully, it will be quick for her, and she can be with her loved one.

Hopefully, this letter will work so that they can change some of the internal sytems so that the computer changes don't add on a few extra months to our timelines. Email will work for people to send the letter, but people also respond to hand written letters more.

BTW- Love Young, That is great if I am reading that correctly that it only took 10 months inland for your PR application....

Thanks for this and other posts like it. Most days, I'm too depressed/bitter over all of this (and how things just inevitably always go wrong for us when it counts). It's not even so much about how long it's taking, as it is the fact that it's been one mess-up after another on Buffalo's end with my file -- something we have no control over. Add onto that the fact that I haven't been able to really work or do much with my life career-wise for nearly 5 years thanks to health, finances, family issues and, the main obstacle these days -- CIC -- and you have a recipe for massive amounts of disappointment and frustration.

Yes, they "misplaced" my police certificate. It's been exactly 2 months since both my consultant and I sent them emails with plenty of proof that they already have it, asking that they find it or accept the perfect copies we sent them. 2 months, several emails to Buffalo AND their program manager, and not ONE reply. Not even kidding. We've ordered my CAIPS notes again, but that probably won't be available for another few weeks. It's come to the point that, as of yesterday, my consultant wants to tag team them with me; we're going to be taking turns emailing them on Mondays, starting tomorrow. This isn't something I would normally have decided to do, as I don't like nagging, but the fact that my consultant suggested it -- and he's normally the LAST person to want to do that sort of thing -- speaks volumes about how ridiculously dragged out this has become. All we want is confirmation that they either found it or accepted the copy, and moved on.

The first week of July will make it 9 months since we sent our application in, and 7 months since we went into "In Process" at Buffalo. My medicals expire in a little over 5 weeks from now. However, for what it's worth, I don't hope I'm the first to get PPR. It wouldn't be fair to get it before people like chess101 and Kess, who've waited even longer; I hope they hear something, and soon.

Yes, it took only a little over 10 1/2 months. :) I really hope these processing times for Buffalo speed up. Even though I didn't go through this office, I have many friends that did. I hope everyone receives good news soon. Stay strong!

Rinnerz: You know you can message me anytime things get too tough. I am always willing to listen and try to provide help. Plus, we are due for a long catch up. Take care of yourself.
