Well, I emailed buffalo, and they responded to me with the following:

We have requested background information from other government offices(s). Unfortunately, we cannot provide a date when the processing of your application will be complete.

I received my IA which said no documents were required, and medical received, and the receipt had been paid. I wonder is this standard procedure, my fbi clearance was good. I did a study abroad for 3 months in college in an African country. I wonder who/what they are doing exactly.

Does anyone know if this is commonplace?

Well the good news is that everything that you could do and that the VO office was done !!
The last remaining activity before you get your visa are the security clearances
There are 2 things CIC needs:
- criminal records : they get that from the police certificates you provided
- security clearance: they get that from inquirery with angencies from governments from every countries the applicant has lived in.
If the applicant has only lived in the us it might be quite fast.
If he/she has lived in other countries the VO may have to go through the Canadian embassy in that country to request those infos... That can be time consuming.. Up to 5 months

In your case it is still nice to know that everything else has been processed.
In my case I only have a

"In light of the possibility of cessation of mail services in Canada beginning 03 June 2011, Canadian visa offices in the United States will HOLD all mail destined for Canada, including passports, on 01 and 02 June 2011.

If a disruption does occur, we will post additional instructions for retrieval of passports on this website."

I think we all are going to get affected by this. Just what we needed.

Excellent news, my husband got an email from the Buffalo Visa Office requesting his passport for a Visa issuance. He lives in Buffalo and will go to the office Tuesday morning. Will keep you all posted and hope more good news comes through for everyone waiting really soon. It happened on my birthday too!

Congratulations!!! So glad to see some movement out of that office!

Congratulations

Congratulations Luv-BUF-Wings!

I am wondering if you used an attorney to process your application, and for those who used an attorney what their approval times? Dominico's ultra fast approval time got me thinking about this. I thought that self-applying would yield the same results, but I'm thinking that immigration lawyers may have additional tools at their fingerprints to speed up the process.

Once again congratulations!

I am prepping the family for our 3 state trek to the great white North in 2 weeks to wait out the approval of my application. Big changes cometh but we will no longer be " missing someone" as my daughter always says. It will be good to be a family again after this trying period.

Congrats Luv-Buf-Wings!!!! That is fantastic news!! I'm very happy to hear that you got the PPR. I'm about 3 weeks behind you. I'm hoping I hear something soon as well. Please keep us up to date on how the landing goes. Good luck! :) P.S. Happy Birthday!

More congratulations from me Love-Bug-Wings!

So glad to hear we`re moving along in Buffalo. I`m about 6 weeks behind you and I hope all goes quickly. I just received my CSQ and paid my PR fee so all docs should be in to Buffalo.

I`m interested in hearing from those that are receiving the PPR and landing....have you left homes for sale in your home country? Does that work well? Do you have to be back often or is it just documents that have to travel back and forth? If I get my PPR I want to pack up and leave ;D, but I fear being so far away (Montreal-TX is a bit expensive). I haven`t put the house on the market yet, but intend to do so by the end of this month.

Just wondering what most of you all are doing....

spirittrac and avon could you please give us your timeline?

Congrats love-buf wings

Congrats Luv_Buf_Wings !! :) That's great news...although i think they just skipped a bunch of people in the middle from Dec/Jan group, but I am glad they are doing "something" !!
Hopefully this week should give them the opportunity to catch up and get going on everyone's visa!

Congratulations Love-Buf-Wings, My wife is in process we should have paid the RPRF up front they have requested it we tried to pay it online a couple weeks ago but received a failure notice however, for us everthing is fine we are together, once this process is completed we will make the transition from the USA to Canada

Thank you all! He plans to land this Thursday. He will apply for a SIN card on Friday and start looking for work after that. He will officially move here once he gets a job and after he gives his employer two weeks notice. If everything goes smoothly, he can be here early July.

I wonder why some are extremely quick (three in the December group and Love's) while others take a long time. Please pass my file over to the quick worker in Buffalo! ;)

Just wanted to give you guys an update that "TheHal" from the October thread had his file transfered to Detroit on Jan 26, 2011. They got a request to pay the RPRF on May 11, which was paid immediately. On June 3, they emailed Detroit about a concern, and the reply was their PPR. I have updated the spreadsheet, and just wanted to give you guys the good news of some progress from Buffalo !

I haven't seen many posts about Buffalo sending their backlog to the satellite offices (NY, Seattle, etc)... are they not telling people they're sending them out, or not doing it (and why not if they are so backed up)?
