I haven't seen many posts about Buffalo sending their backlog to the satellite offices (NY, Seattle, etc)... are they not telling people they're sending them out, or not doing it (and why not if they are so backed up)?
About three people from the December thread had their file transfered to satellite offices. I doubt it that they won't tell them if they do the transfer...I just think they aren't doing that for a lot of them....probably all the satellite offices are experiencing a backlog too, as the computer upgrade was done everywhere

Excellent news, my husband got an email from the Buffalo Visa Office requesting his passport for a Visa issuance. He lives in Buffalo and will go to the office Tuesday morning. Will keep you all posted and hope more good news comes through for everyone waiting really soon. It happened on my birthday too!
Congrats to you! Glad to hear things are moving forward in Buffalo! Can't wait to hear! Hope your transition goes smoothly...

Well I must admit it's a little frustrating as we applied February first with no word from them! I might email.

Hey shelleydalyce! I can totally understand your frustration, but Buffalo is working very inconsistently on all files. There are a 70% of people in December group and almost everyone in January who are still waiting to hear from Buffalo. For some of us it still just says "Application Received!" in Buffalo, that too as early as mid-Jan...but nothing since then. We all have emailed Buffalo and the only response we get is, "Your file is in process, the expected date of completion is unknown. If we need anything from you we will let you know!"

So...I don't know if it will help to email them...but you can try.
Hang in there dear.....I really hope we all hear some news soon.

Congratulations Luv-BUF-Wings!

I am wondering if you used an attorney to process your application, and for those who used an attorney what their approval times?
We did not use a lawyer. I don't think you need a lawyer or that a lawyer helps the process move along faster. You just have to be careful and provide sufficient details to proof your relationship is legitimate. Also, if you forward a complete application with fees prepaid helps a lot.

Good luck!

I think it has to do with which officer you get and how much backlog they get? Its the only reason why I can think of why some people get skipped ahead with a big timeframe dfference like that.

That's what we did too (i.e. no lawyer, extensive proof, prepaid fees). Processing took almost exactly four months. Wishing all of you speedy processing as well...

Thx Buffalo Toronto for asking. I will try to put in the timeline which is the following:

Application received Dec 1st, 2010, I believe Sponsor approved Jan 5, 2011, IA was April 6th, 2011, In Process was I believe in March.

Here is to hoping that this week clears out backlog, although I don't know who they are to contact regarding my case, as it appears very straightforward.

Hi all,

My spouse went to school in Canada for her four years of university, but has otherwise only lived in the USA. I am wondering, will our application take longer to process as a result, in terms of a background check with Canadian authorities? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks!
SS

Yes, she will be asked to forward a Canadian police certificate in addition to the FBI certificate. A police certificate is required for any foreign residency for more than six months. It's best to be proactive and include it in advance or even before they request it so that your application won't be delayed.

She won't be asked to provide Canadian Police Certificate as they do thier own name check. Having been in Canada for school or work in the past has no effect on this. My bf lived here for years and didnt have anything requested. If your name gets a hit they may request prints but rarely.
