congrats dhdesigns!!! hopefully everything will work out fine! ;D

i never knew that there is a chance they wont return it the same day! that sucks... i would drive 7 hours to buffalo and might not be able to cross the border :-X new plan needed when i finally get my ppr

If it's not the same day then it will be the next day.. just overnight there. There's a lot of good shopping, Niagara is close by.. it won't be so bad :)

Thanks Cheryln! I'm sure you are right around the corner.

We are in a dilemma re the passport (anyone have a phone number for the consulate?). We are going to the UK on Sept 25th till Oct 11. The Passport request noted that they wanted it before Oct 16th. Based on their turn around time of 15 business days, we don't have enough time to get it back before we leave because as it happens we are going to Toronto on Sept 22nd prior to going to the UK.................so are thinking about skipping some of the obligations and driving to Buffalo on the Thursday - but are worried because it says the they 'make every effort to return the passport the same day' when going in person...............we will be royally screwed if we don't get it back right away......

I strongly suggest that you go in person. If I were you there is no way I would put my passport in the mail with a trip in the near future. The office is only open to the public from 8 until 11 (or 1, I can't remember exactly) so they have plenty of time left in the workday to get you processed and out. I can not imagine what extremely rare circumstance it would be if they did not give you your passport back that day.

I took my passport in person. I suggest you plan to be at the office before it opens (like 7-7:15 am). There will most likely already be a line forming in the lobby. The guard will ask why you are here and check your passport. He will escort about 10 people up at a time. When you get there, they will ask for your cell phones and tell you which window to line up at (depending on your purpose). When it`s your turn you will submit your passport, pics, and PPR letter. I think they asked some questions too. Then you are sent to the waiting room to, you guessed it, wait. It takes about 2 hours. Meanwhile, you can watch people going in for interviews, read a book, etc. After about 2 hours they start calling several people to one room. You line up and they give you back your passport and some papers explaining SIN, health card, etc. Then they tell you to wait a few hours before attempting to cross the border while the computers are being updated.

Go to lunch, do some shopping, head to the border and land. That's it. Landing takes about 15 minutes if there is no wait. They take your papers, passport, etc ask some questions, confirm your name, contact info etc, do some stuff in the computer. Then you are off to customs to declare any goods to import, and then you are DONE except for coming back here to report your experience.

I think you have a lot less worry about if you go in person. Congratulations. Allison

Is there anyway I can contact CIC-Buffalo? I still have my FBI certificate to mail but have not heard from the office yet. My husband e-mailed them and the auto-reply said to contact them if we do not hear anything from them in *30* weeks!!!

Phone number or e-mail address (site) will be helpful. Thanks!~~

i would hold onto it until you at least have your stickers... You should get an AOR hopefully soon. they do not reply until a file has been created in Buffalo

Michael, it will be sooner than that. I got the same email and mine changed to in process the following week.

I haven't received an AOR from B'Lo yet - heck, my file was just transferred two weeks ago, but I sent a case-specific email to Buffalo requesting instructions on how to send in additional information. We have a whole bunch of new information to send in, and we're about to move, so I'd really rather send our stuff in before we start packing everything up. I figured it wouldn't necessarily hurt to ask for instructions to see if it is even possible.

I will let y'all know what response, if any, I receive...

Thanks Alison,
We are just trying to work out the logistics to add a couple days to the trip to Toronto to make this happen - and agree that it will be best to do it in person. We won't land when we cross back though, as we leave 4 days later for Europe, and will land upon returning to Vancouver a couple weeks later - can't wait!

BTW - this morning Ecas is updated to Decision Made -so they actually do update it!!

Good idea not to land until you get back from your trip.
