Have fun travelling with the kids! :P

You are TOO FUNNY! :P

Congrats everyone who's had good news recently.

My thoughts are with you guys still waiting longer than we were, and are directed at the VOs to get their acts together for the old-timers still waiting. Considering I had an exclusion order, a spot on my FBI record, and 4 accompanying kids, I cannot fathom why someone with a simple case would still be waiting. It's bull*#&@.

OMFG - Our VO's boss just emailed us to tell us she has forwarded our email to the VO and asked for her response.

Our lawyer just sent a Quality of Service Complaint to our VO's boss. Hopefully, we can get moving here.

Oh wow... hope it will turn out to be a good news but not giving you trouble... Sending my wishes and luck to you way!
PS: At least your lawyer is doing something... but did they tell you before they took the action?

Oh heck no. I have had to light a fire under our lawyer's ass the entire way. This has been a complete clusterblank.

Wait, wait! If your husband is moving to settle in Canada and the mattress is on his B4 you can import used mattresses without any special requirements. I've seen this explicitly stated on the CBSA website before but can't find it just now and need to run off soon. However, don't give it away or anything.

For starters look at http://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5113-eng.html and you'll see that there is no restriction listed (unlike for people who are not immigrating or returning after min 1 year abroad)

They are concerned about bed bug issue, etc. You can import as long as they're cleaned.

Note: the publications are available on CBSA websites, eg: www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d9/d9-1-7-eng.pdf

Used or second-hand mattresses

You cannot import used or second-hand mattresses into Canada unless you have a certificate verifying that the mattresses have been cleaned and fumigated in the country of export. A letter, or any other document that clearly demonstrates that this requirement has been met, is acceptable if it is signed by a person qualified in cleaning and fumigation.

I got my COPR in only 2 weeks with a landing date of August 11. We're pretty excited and a little scared.

It contained some information that puts a wrench in my plans. We live in New York City and visit Toronto several times a year. It was our intention to land the next time my wife and I visit, but not do the actual move until one of us gets a job (something that's hard to put a date on).

That's when I was expecting a visa. Instead I got the COPR and instructions that say the visa will be applied for at the time of my landing and if I want to travel outside Canada between landing and receiving the PR card, I have to apply for a permanent resident abroad visa.

So where does that leave us? My expectation all along was that I don't have to move to land, but the COPR instructions suggest that I do. And it won't be easy to arrange all this by August 11 (we both have jobs and a small child so it's not like we can put all our energies between now and then into arranging the move).

Does anyone here have experience with this?

They now issue COPR for everyone.

"Note: As of December 1, 2011, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will no longer issue a Permanent Resident counterfoil to applicants from visa exempt countries. All applicants approved for permanent residence, whether they hold a passport from a visa exempt country or from a country requiring a visa for Canada, will continue to be issued a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) document."

Congratulations again, bloodyguitars!
