Probably a few reasons.

1) Climate in Vancouver is warmest in Canada so a lot of homeless migrate out here.

2) Government shutting down Riverview, which was this huge psychiatric hospital that once had 7000 beds. I worked their in the late 90s when I was still a student and it still had 800 beds. It's now down to a hundred or so beds and it will be closed soon.

3) The NIMBY-ism of Vancouver, where people purport to care but really nobody wants to put shelters and low income housing next to million dollar condos.

Praying for you, Ichiro and anyone else out there who I may be forgetting or who I can't name because they don't post too frequently but who have been waiting for forever and a day.

I guess this puts you in the 20% who go over 11 months category (should one feel special?). On the bright side, it can't be that much longer, can it? Keep buggin' them, I say.

Thanks again ddobro2, you've been a great voice in this forum. I'm wishing you and your partner the best in Canada :)

Cheers,

I second the motion by cuing in the music of 'Tom Jones - It's Not Unusual'.... :)

So it looks like a huge number of people there are with psychiatric illnesses. That might explain why, I guess.

I guess I'll be joining you all over here. My app was just approved and sent to Buffalo today.

App mailed: 11/14/11
App received by CIC-M: 11/15/11
App approved and sent to Buffalo: 1/17/12

Let me know if there's any other information you need for the spreadsheet. Nice to finally join you all. Here's to everyone's process going smoothly and quickly.

Well I'm gearing up to join this group sometime next month :) We have everything except my husband birth certificate (which his mother is sending to us) and the correct paperwork from the doctor's office (which I'm faxing to them tomorrow!) We're both pretty young (early/mid 20's) so this is really nerve wracking for us! Hopefully everything goes smoothly. All the posts of getting PPR is very awesome to see and helpful!!! Looking forward to getting it all done and over with haha :)

Just got back from the post office where I mailed my passport to Fort Erie. Yes, the PPR email came earlier today. Finally, finally, finally I am out of this immigration hell. Needless to say, my best wishes go out to everyone still waiting but especially those that have been waiting the longest. After all, sometimes this process gets a little redic - so much so that they should maybe have an SNL skit about how long people wait for - like show someone dropping off their application as a young person and then while laying on their death bed, lo and behold, they get an email from Buffalo requesting their passport......and they die happy. Okay, that was a gross exaggeration :)

Another one bites the dust!
Wow. So great to hear that. Am happy for you.

You've been such a help to me and other here. Much appreciated.

Congrats, and see ya in Canada!

CONGRATULATIONS DDOBRO2! I actually came on tonight hoping to see good news from you after you got "decision made" yesterday. Congrats! Seriously, I'm very happy for you that this long journey is finally wrapping up for you! :)

i would imagine that he might not have realized at the time that one already had 'flown the cuckoo's nest' so to speak.

I have to conclude however, that if I went through an experience like that at the border, that I would've likely lost a screw as well.

One other thing I can conclude from this particular subject is that I don't think we were getting the whole story from her, either. She, or he, said he/she was from a visa exempt country, but the manner of her broken English suggests that she may be deceptive for whatever reason. I'm thinking she may perhaps be Chinese. I didn't read through the whole thing, though. It was just too much for me to handle. But then, I went to the CIC website to see what countries and territories are listed as requiring a visa, and apparently, Hong Kong is visa exempt - though China is not. (I thought Hong Kong has been a part of China since 1999?) So I really don't know.

I read the thread from when it started (it was like a train wreck really, you wanted to look away but you just couldn't). Unfortunately his promises of help came across as rather like he was trying to provoke her, which I thought rather inappropriate and unfair since yes, it appears that she seems to have some mental health concerns. I was hoping he'd respond with a clear answer that showed he wasn't trying to provoke her by repeatedly telling her that he could help her and asking her to contact him. :-\

Thanks, was glad to help. :)

Your sixth sense was correct! Thanks, I'm glad to be done too, especially since I started getting pretty Debbie downer up in here.
