You can call RAMQ as soon as you land or go in to one of their offices in person to apply and start the waiting process. If you have already landed and not registered with them, you should do this immediately to start the 3 month waiting time. They don't keep the forms, they just look at them. Did you say you are in Mtl? If so, you could just go down there in person with your forms. It doesn't take too long, and they will go ahead and take your picture for the RAMQ card. (You have to pay about $8 for the card fee.)

Yep, I'm in MTL! I won't be landing for another month, but I'll definitely keep that in mind! If I can walk in and out as fast as getting my SIN, it'll be a breeze. Thanks for the head's up. ;)

Do not send the original, because as you said, the original is needed for certain things in Quebec. Send a copy and keep your original with you; immigration knows you need to keep the original so they should have no problem with this.
Ugh. The MICC said to send the original, so we did... and then only later got an e-mail reply from NYC (who "don't answer e-mail") saying we could send a copy of it by e-mail (even though they "don't accept documents by e-mail"). Since they sent us a PPR the next day I am not really complaining ;)

But, the MICC also said they can issue a new copy of it, and that NYC will return it. So, fingers crossed, everything will work out in the end.

That stinks that they told you to send the original. Hopefully you will get it back and won't have to ask for another original copy. (Though it is good to know they can issue new ones!)

This is all great news!! so many people getting their PPRs....

My question is this.....My husband may be coming to Vancouver for a long visit and will be outting his personal belongings into storage until we get his PR....How Detailed do they want you to be?? My husband is a mechanic and has a huge number of tools for work...Does he have to list every single tool? and he is a fisher as well...does he have to list every single lure?? These questions may be silly but I am not about to make him document all this unless he HAS TO!

Any help would be AWESOME!

A friend of mine just received PPR yesterday (October 7th) via email. Her application was received by Mississauga March 31st. At some point it was transferred from Buffalo to the NY office (sorry - don't know what date).

Hope the good news continues for everyone. Seems like there have been a lot more PPRs here lately. :)

Just giving everyone an update:

My bf landed two weeks ago! We basically crossed over to the USA went to eat, and returned to Canada at the border crossing area. It was a stormy monday night, when we went back to Canada there was just one couple in front of us.
The border crossing guard said " let me see if I can remember how to do this"
hahaha but it was good really laid back, they knew we had been in canada together for awhile so it was all good! Feels good to have the entire process done, now we can get on with our lives,
A message to everyone who's still waiting: Don't give up hope, we waiting over 12 months, sent in additional proof for our common-law status and eventually it went thru.

In respect to the PPR I wonder if we should wait to get it in post before sending the stuff off, or if the e-mail instructions were good enough.. ???

The email instructions are good enough. In fact, if you received the email you won't necessarily receive a follow up by post (my husband only received an email).

It seems to me that people immigrating from the states receive their PPRs much quicker than non-Americans... Is anyone here from Europe?? I feel like an outsider :(

I applied in December. According to the statistics on this forum, processing times are faster for Americans. I haven't seen anyone waiting as long as I have.

Hey Everyone!

It's been awhile since I've been on this board. Life as been a mad scramble since we received our visas. However, our house is under contract and we will be landing in Canada in 2 weeks! I have a quick question for anyone who may know. Can I import a refrigerator into Canada that is over 10 years old? I read somewhere online that this is prohibited and I was wondering if anyone knew for certain if this is the case. Just trying to sort out what we can and can't bring as far as household appliances go. Any help would be appreciated.

Congrats to all of you have landed or received your visas. To those waiting, hang in there and stay positive. :)

There are a few of us December people who applied through Buffalo and are still waiting so you aren't alone. Thinking you are alone in this process is a good way to depress yourself and make this process even harder then it already is. Try to remember that you do have people with you who are still waiting and everyone here is going through the same process you are.

Buffalo, you're keeping me busy with this spreadsheet, huh? ;) Hehe, noooo I'm not complaining though.
