A few things have changed recently. Buffalo officially has closed, but it looks like they are still tying up some loose ends. My understanding is that all files are being transferred to either Ottawa or one of the regional offices. From my experience, it is really unclear where files are currently.

The other major change is that a medical can now be extended if it was done less than 15-months ago. This is decided on a case-by-case basis. It seems that a lot of Canadian officials aren't aware of the new ability to extend a medical exam expiration date, so her MP may be speaking from old information.
Thanks for the reply. Interesting regarding the medical. She was told around Christmas 2011 that she needed to redo hers (she had to re do her x rays already twice by that point) but that the children did not. She never got anything official or in writing: her MP told her. Then less than two months later she had him call to confirm that her new medical had been received and they told her MP that the kids had to redo theirs.

In Lasiar's case, the PPR had the June 13th date. So unless they've extended the medical after the PPR Lasiar's timing is getting cut pretty close.

Good luck, Lasiar. Perhaps send them an e-mail specifically on the date (I know you had mentioned restrictions with getting time off to do a quick landing).
Ty OhCanadiana.. I have sent them several case specific emails with no response other than the Generic one.. my MP was told by the person she was speaking with from CIC that emails are a waste of time, as they are not important to them enough to look at any regular intervals, so dont bother to send..How upsetting is that to hear. Have received nothing from CIC email or other wise telling us anything. :(

Why is your landing date June 13th? I'm sure they've extended your medicals. They extended my husband's when they took waaaay too long to process our application. We didn't even have to ask.
this is part of the letter we recieved, that I had on an earlier post.
Dear Applicant:
Your application for permanent residence in Canada appears to be ready for visa issuance. Your
permanent resident visa can only be issued at our office in Detroit. It is not possible to have it printed at
another office.
Based on the validity date of your medical examination results, your immigrant visa will be
valid to JUNE 13, 2012, assuming that your passport(s) do not expire prior to that date. The visa
expiry date cannot be extended. If you fail to provide the passport, your application will be closed when
the medical validity has expired. We encourage you to submit your passport as soon as possible to
allow you adequate time to prepare for your move to Canada. If you allow your visa to expire without
having entered Canada, you will be able to reapply for permanent residence in Canada, and a new
application and a new processing fee will be required. Any new application will be assessed according
to the Canadian Immigration Legislation in force at the time that the new application is filed. There is
no guarantee a future application will be successful.
Please submit your valid passport Please detach any expired passport(s) from the valid
passport(s) that you send to our office. Applicants who send their documents by mail must provide a
return address in Canada or the United States to which their passport(s) can be returned (see the
“Document Return Procedure” page attached to this letter). If you do not have a mailing address in
Canada or the United States, you must deliver your passport(s) in person, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to
12 noon. Your passport will be ready for pick up in ten business days

This Bulletin may be helpful if her medical expires again (hopefully not!!!)

There's reports in this thread I started when the Bulletin came out that folks were getting the medical extended immediately if they requested it :)

Are they crazy? They requested your passport on May 16 and expect you to land by June 13th?! And it can't be extended? Even before Buffalo was shut down (probably due to incompetence), it was taking a month for people to get their passports back... and they knew this. I can't believe it!

It would seem that they are!! I pretty much don't even know what to do, have done all I can, made phone calls, emails, MP .. what's left? still I get no where really stressed at this point. They take such a, what is supposed to be, happy time and make it hellish..

Oh Lasiar, that's awful! I hope they are just taking awhile because they are working on a medical extension so the landing date isn't five seconds after the passport is returned.

I've not dealt with Detroit, but it seems the only reason Buffalo gave me any information is because I emailed Ottawa after getting some bad information from the call center. Have you tried emailing Ottawa?

It seems that this sentence of your letter is important, "If you fail to provide the passport, your application will be closed when
the medical validity has expired." You HAVE provided the passport, which indicates that your application will not be closed.

I hope everything is sorted out soon!

Add another couple to the "met online" list! Husband and I didn't meet via gaming tho... We met on a certain UK-based forum full of nerdy photoshops/gifs, exceptional sarcasm, and off-colour humor. I'd name it, but it's not a place for those easily offended :-X

I've found most of the folks at the border don't even bat an eye when people tell them they met their spouses online now. When I first started seeing Husband 8 years ago, a few guards questioned me about it, but in the last few years, it's become so common it's just not a big deal anymore.

Edit: just remembered... my cousin met her Canadian husband via WoW too! ;D
First thoughts was 4chan.. but then you say UK based and the creator is American so now I have no idea :p

Funny. When Hubby came here for the first time through the Ottawa Airport, the customs guy asked how he met me, he said online and the customs guy was like "Okay, World of Warcraft" *writes it down*

It cracked me up because I never played it but my husband has, so it was amusing! :p
Haha, I had to explain that one at the border too! :p

Also g-man, Guild Wars rocks too. Played the GW2 beta?

Hi all,

Does any one know how to get CORP? Does it come with the landing doc? or Is there any link to download this form?
It is your landing doc and the doc you'll need forever (after stamped at the border when you land) to prove you ARE a Canadian Resident.

(COPR = Confirmation of Permanent Residency)

(I wonder how often they drop mail off at Fort Erie, ON)
I was looking at other threads and forums, and apparently they mailed out a bunch on Monday as well. So hopefully that means they are mailing them out every day.

For all those who are in need of information and have not been able to get any from Buffalo, contact Ottawa instead. I rang the call center again this morning since the tracking number provided for my returned passport is either invalid or has not been activated. The agent said that I should contact Ottawa. Given that the only reason I received a response with my tracking number from Buffalo is because I emailed Ottawa awhile ago and they forwarded the email, this seems like good information.
