I also found that weird upon reading this as it seems that Ontario at least doesn't give OHIP to those with a 12 month visitor record. I will have to share your sentiment that I would be a bit peeved if my province was giving OHIP to visitors who didn't pay into the system. Certainly so if I have to wait 90 days before I can get it as a permanent resident myself.
But that's Ontario, and admittedly, if I was heading to Alberta, and I knew that I could get a health card with a 12 month visitor record, well shoot! I sure would've applied for it. Who am I kidding here?![Big Grin :D :D](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
However, as I currently stand, I have no coverage here, but I do have coverage back in the States. I'm still waiting on my SIN card, even!

AmericaninQuebec said:Have you gone and signed up for the Alberta health coverage yet? I too find it odd that they would allow someone who is only a visitor to sign up, since it is draining resources from tax-paying citizens. Personally, if I were living and working in Alberta I'd be pretty pissed to find out that my hard-earned tax dollars were going towards the health care of a tourist, but I'm stingy like that. :I hope for your sake they do accept your visitor record and let you get coverage.
That said, if some provinces allow extended visitors to get provincial health coverage, why is the federal government demanding private health insurance for parents and grandparents coming in under the super-visa? Shouldn't there be an exception for those coming to provinces where they would be allowed to get provincial coverage?
