All you need to do is go into the local Service Canada Center with your COPR and Passport, and explain that you have just landed as a PR and you need a SIN. They under normal circumstances can get you one in 10 minutes....if your in SW Ontario...Stay away from Chatham...they DON'T know what they are doing...trust me....
Awesome, thank you and ddobro. I will be in Calgary so I am not certain where to go but I'm sure my hubby will have an idea.

There is one in Marlborough Mall in Calgary, it gets busy and they have some odd hours, but they're relatively quick if you get there early enough :)

I had my medical examination in August and the forms were sent by September. My online status says the medical examination has been processed. Now we're just sitting and waiting for the next step.

Application submitted: March 1st, 2011
Application received: March 31st, 2011
Processing began: July 2011
Request for medical examination sent: July 11, 2011
Medical Examination submitted: August 2011
Maddy -

I don't think many of us here will be able to comment on your time lines - your situation is extremely unusual. The reason why your situation is so unusual is because the medicals for spousal applications are supposed to be submitted with the original application package. In your case, it looks like you submitted the application without the medicals and then waited for CIC to request this information from you and only completed the medicals then. I'm guessing this has probably created processing delays (hopefully not too much of a delay). Since your situation is so unique, I wouldn't use any of the time lines you see here as guideline for what you might expect since everyone here (or almost everyone) would have submitted their medicals at the beginning with their original package. Good luck and I hope your processing is completed soon! Since your medicals have been processed, it does sound like you should be close to the end.

DDOBRO2,

Could you update my stats? I am under CanuckofChicago and just via ECAS that INPROCESS was started on October 6th, 2011.

Btw, perhaps you know or anyone that reads this post. Any idea how long it would take from inprocess to PPR? We sent in my spouse's medical records with her PR application does this cut the wait time down?

THanks,
Richard

It for sure cuts it down, because if the case was that you did not send the medical with the initial application, then the visa office has to either email or mail ( which could take weeks to get to you) and request for the medicals, and I am not sure if they put your file in the back of queu in that case or not. but in general, i would say you have saved some headache by sending your medical with the initial app., and I am sure it is required to do so anyways, or the file could be returned as it is incomplete.

I feel bad repeating the same thing here, but historically speaking, there is just no way to know how long after you are "in process" à la e-CAS that you get the long sought-after PPR email. It has varied by a lot. Now, if Buffalo and e-CAS all of a sudden start churning out "in process" updates and PPR emails in such a way that there's somewhat of a pattern, believe me I will be happy to see it. Could be later this week. Could be another couple of months to go. I hope it's the former. I'm right behind you timeline-wise so I'm only hoping it's not much longer for the both of us.

if you enter:

the Client ID number as the identification type for the sponsor (which is found on the sponsorship approval letter), the last name of the sponsor, the date of birth of the sponsor, and the country of birth of the sponsor, you should get two columns under the "sponsorship application(s)" heading: "Sponsorship Application Status" and "Permanent Residence Application Status." I suspect those say, "Decision Made" and "Application Received," respectively, for your case. You can click on both of those statuses and get more detailed information.

if you then log out and enter all the above for yourself, the principal applicant, you would just get to see the "Permanent Residence Application Status" part only. So it's not really a big deal.

But if you want to log in as the PA, you would not be able to enter in *your* details, but his or her Client ID. The information needs to be consistent in that regard.

If you have any previous dealings with CIC, you already have a Client ID. If not, you can either just email Buffalo and see if they issue you an AOR (yes, it goes to the PA unlike the sponsorship approval) and get the Client ID that way. As far as the file number, from what I hear, CPCM has actually started including this on the sponsorship approvals. In my experience, the file number + PA's details gives the same info as Client ID + PA's details. Then there's that whole thing about e-CAS not being a big help anyway........

I am an International Student studying in Canada from Hong Kong, with a 10- year US visitor visa in effect.

I just married to my Canadian Husband a couple months ago but we ve been living together since 2009. We are hoping that we can still send our application to Buffalo as we can choose to have interview in the US( much closer to Canada) instead of flying all the way back to Hong Kong.

But I just received a bad news from one of the councillor from the phone and they said that I have to send it back to my Home country to have the immigration process done. May i know if this is the truth? Because I did called a couple times before and other councillors on the phone had been telling me I can choose which visa office to send my application to.

i will appreciate any answer to my questions very much!

you have to be living in a particular country for 1 year atleast to be processed through that country, otherwise the application goes to your home country

I think the requirement is that you have to have admitted to Canada for at least one year in order to apply through Buffalo. I think if you came for 6 months and then extended your visit you are out, but I haven't been able to confirm that with CIC website.

All I can find is this statement at the moment. "We [Buffalo] provide these services to citizens of or persons legally admitted to Bermuda, Canada, St. Pierre et Miquelon, and the United States (including Puerto Rico)" but nothing about how long you must be in Canada before you can apply through B'lo.
