I called and spoke to some person at the CAIPS request center, I didn't catch her name (she said it twice but I still didn't understand it), but she was very helpful and suggested faxing that those requests are usually attended to quicker, since they are usually all from folks already in Canada (because obviously you cant enclose the $ over the fax if needed). The fax number to use is: 613-957-6517.

I faxed the form for the request itself, and then a second page which had my: drivers license, passport page with most recent entry stamp, and my Alberta Health card.

The lady on the phone said that if you have a Canadian Drivers license or health card, that they will accept those as proof you are in Canada with your other documents.

If I had known it was this easy to order them, I would have done so ages ago.

I'm glad you've ordered CAIPS notes.

I can't see what could possibly be the holdup. Are you common law or spousal? Do you have kids? Have you lived in a bunch of different countries with arrest warrants in each? Is Interpol coming after you? How in the world can they not be done with your application? If they average 4-5 months for most people here (it would seem), that would've had you landed by August, at the latest...

Hello to all, I am hoping in praying that everyone here has a quick process :) I have just a couple of questions. This process if so confusing and I read things everyday on here that confuse me more so bare with me haha

1) What is CAIPS?

2) I know this is awhile yet because I just mailed off our application on January 14th but I am curious. When we get PPR does my wife send in her passport then go to Buffalo to land and what not when she gets it back--or-- Can she leave like the day after and just go to Buffalo without mailing it in and get that taken care of the sameday and land that day? Reason I am asking is I was just able to land my wife a job that they will hold until mid May and I was just looking for the quickest way to get her up here once we get to the PPR stage. Thank You :)

CAIPS are the notes that immigration officer write about your file. They can give you an idea of what is happening with your file and if an interview is required can possibly iform you of the reason for the interview.

Yes you can go to Buffalo directly and get the visa once PPR comes and land the same day or you have the option of mailing the passport to them and landing at any border crossing or at a local office. However this option would take longer. going to Buffalo is the fastest way to get the PR visa and land.

Hi there,

CAIPS notes is information about your application that is input to an electronic file. It contains information about the processing of it.

When your wifes passport requested she can either chose to mail it or if she's close by go to Buffalo in person and collect it the same day and land.

I believe it's free if you're living in Canada and you have authorization to receive information on your wifes file.

One more question, and I apologize after this question i should be questioned out for awhile. I know where most of us havn't landed yet, but when my wife lands can she start working right away or is there a waiting period? I thought it was right away but a friend of mine today who's husband just landed via inland said you have to wait 6 weeks? Can anyone confirm this? If it just applies to inland or does it also apply to outland? Thanks :)

It's not a matter of inland versus outland. She can work as soon as she gets her SIN. For most people, all you need is your landing papers and ID to get your SIN, so you can get it the VERY same day that you land if you wish. However, 6 weeks sounds like maybe your friend's husband either didn't know he didn't need his PR card for this (takes 30 business days or more to get to you, which would explain the 6 weeks), OR the Service Canada office he went to didn't know and therefore told him to come back when he had his PR card.

But technically, you shouldn't need your PR card to obtain your SIN at all, which is why most people will tell you that--yes--she should be able to work asap, provided she gets her SIN as soon as she lands.

Buffalo sucks.

Edit: I think we should all send them anonymous faxes (e.g. from work, from a library, etc) requesting they send more applications to satellite offices (e.g. Detroit, NYC, Seattle, etc). I've yet to understand when/how they make that decision, it seems entirely random. I wonder just how swamped they have to be, before they decide to send some applications elsewhere?
