To get a u.s. visitor visa you need to complete an online application for a b-2 visitor visa. and Pay the $140 fee before you can schedule an appointment. It takes around 2 weeks to get an appointment, but this depends on the number of applicants and time of year. Then you need to attend the interview, be prepared with ALOT of proof. You will need proof of income such as pay stubs, if attending school proof you payed your fees and offical transcripts, proof od money in your bank account. Proof of why you are going to the U.S. (show them the letter requesting you to attend an interview in the u.s.), proof of a lease in canada or mortgage. Also your original passport and other identification documents like student ID, PR cards, driver;s license, ect. Also you will need original marriage certificate.
They will ask you alot of questions even ones you do no expect. I was asked how much money my husband made a month, if I was working and even after shwoing them our lease they sd we did not make enough money even though our income is 2 times the amount of the lease. We found this funny because I only need my husband in the u.s. for 1 day how much money does it take to drive to the u.s for one day. Also they did not like the fact the we have only been married for 7 months.
So be prepared for the worst. I never thought that getting a visitor visa for my husband would be so hard and refused. I assumed I am a u.s. citizen he is my husband, has been in canada for 5 yrs and has canadian PR. THis should be enough, but we were still denied. Now I have to attend the interview alone and all I can show the IO is that we tried to get hiim a visa but it was denied. My last hope is to contact my u.s. senator to see if they can do something
