Question for the group:

It was my understanding that once the embassy issued the visa you had a year to land. But i have been reading our last posts and it looks like you have to land before your medicals expire. Is this correct?

You have to land before your visa expires. The expiry date normally coincides with EITHER the 1 year anniversary of your medicals OR your passport's expiry date, whichever comes first. In rare cases, the visa office SOMETIMES extends the medicals' validity so that they can give you a later visa expiry date, so you have more time to land. But often, they just make you redo the medicals before issuing the visa.

Hi,

At last i landed today at Pearson airport. It was great and very simple Immigration process. It hardly took me max. 2 mins. to clear immigration and 5 mins in custom.

I thank all the forum members to help me out in this whole process. I wish all the best to the rest who are still in process.

Keep smiling

Cheers, :D

Hello, I'm new to this thread. I think. Looking for advice here too.

We just heard today that they received the dhl shipment from Guatemala in Costa Rica and my husbands passport wasn't one of the lucky ones..AGAIN. Now, his medicals and criminal check expire next week and the week after. Should he just go re-do them, or should we wait till they request them? I am just wondering if the paper work will be different than when it was the original medicals etc. They haven't sent a letter requesting them since as of today they are still valid. Only for 1-2 more weeks though. By the time the next shipment goes to Costa Rica approx Sept. 15, they will already be expired. I want to get on top of this right away.

Thanks.

From what I've read elsewhere on this forum, it is better to wait until they request them. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

My husband will be in the same boat, medicals expiring soon.

As to medicals you better wait until they request to re-do them. I had the same thing and asked CIC what to do so they've advised me not to rush and wait. That's from my experience...

i received this yesterday FINALLY! and it explains why we have been waiting longer than others who applied after us even:

Thank you for your electronic message.

We have reviewed in our system the application for Mr. ***** and we found that to be able to continue with his process, the results of the verification of the fingerprints with the RCMP are pending. This is a process that takes 4 to 6 months to receive back a reply. We have sent the fingerprints for verification with the RCMP on April 07. We have sent a message to the RCMP requesting information about the fingerprints

The medical exams may be required since are valid until September 09. As soon as we have new information, you will be contacted and informed about the medical exams and the Police Certificate.
