Any November 2010 applicants dealing with the Accra visa office, please?

I am just wondering about the progress of outland spouse sponsorship applications to that visa office. I am from the May 2011 thread and itching for some good news from that office. :)

Thanks!

I wish I had known about this forum sooner! It would've been soooo nice to have some support through this entire process! I've been trying to sponsor my boyfriend, who lives in Mexico City. Our case would have been a little more complicated I thought, but it's been pretty straightforward, if not fast. He lived in Toronto when I met him, was a minor when he came (14 years old) and his parents put through a refugee application that was denied, so they returned to Mexico City when he was 22, two years into our relationship. That in addition to the fact that we're not married, so I figured I'd have to go above and beyond to prove the validity of our relationship. We didn't apply right away since ... well, I'm not sure, we weren't really thinking long term. But then I found out I was pregnant last year in January and so we started researching how to get him back to Toronto, since I don't speak Spanish at all so I wouldn't feel comfortable moving to Mexico City.

We had to file for an authority to return first, which should've taken a year and cost $400, but the embassy in Mx City waived the fee for us and processed it within a month! We sent our application for PR in on November 11, 2010 and received a response that it had been received on December 22. On February 28 it was transferred to the office in Mexico City and that's where it's been ever since! They're amazing with answering emails ... usually answering within the week, so it's been good. We ran into a minor issue with his police clearance since he needed a military card in order to get it done and since he was in Canada when he turned 18, he wasn't in Mexico to perform his military service, but he applied for one and got one so luckily it wasn't too big of a hiccup. They have all of his medical reports and everything, so we have no other paperwork to turn in, they have all the flight receipts and correspondence since he went to Mexico (I've visited Mexico 4-5 times a year since he left, except for last year since I was pregnant I only visited twice), and even our son's birth certificate (he was born in September). We got a letter on June 29 asking us to pay the Right of Permanent Residence Fee, so I did that and sent the receipt to the offices in Mexico City and Mississauga via email, courier and fax ...

And that's been our journey so far! I'm hoping that them asking for the fee means that it's a yes and now they're just waiting to issue the visa. Does anyone have any experience with this? We weren't asked for an interview or passports or anything so I'm a little confused if that's what would be next ...

After 8 months and 6 days we have finally reached Decision Made on Ecas. Just awaiting the letter or email. Been a soul destroying process but we are finally getting towards the end. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Yeah!! I am so pleased for you. Sorry that I only just saw your post as I haven't been on here as much as I used to. When do you plan on moving to Canada? We are picking up my partners passport on Thursday with the visa attached so we will be DONE! In the process of finalizing a sale on our house in the UK and buying one in Canada so it is all systems go at the moment and we hope it be there by Sept/Oct at the latest.
Congratulations to you and hope you have a very happy life in Canada.

Hey Geminibella. Don't give up all hope. He may be able to follow you back to Canada soon after. I know the wait is painful and so incredibly frustrating. If he has to redo his medical, then so be it. I know it is more money but it may be necessary. Keep the faith and enjoy the rest of your visit over there.

In this moment, exactly nine months ago, we were shipping our application package to Mississauga.
Well, right now I'm holding my husband's passport in my hands and the visa is soooo beautiful!
Ok... I'm having some troubles realizing that it's all done... Remember to breathe.... ::)
This means in September we'll go to Canada together! I'm so grateful I can hardly keep from crying.

The envelope we got back from Rome contained the Passport, the "Confirmation of Permanent Residence" and all the additional documents and pictures we provided with the application. I didn't expect to get those back! Neat! ;-)

Hi Jen! Thank you and don't worry about it, I haven't been on the forum very often as well. How did the passport pick up go? Did you see how beautiful the visa is? I'm speechless! :-)
Did you manage to buy the house you were talking about a couple of months ago? It's refreshing to finally see things starting to move in the right direction, eh?!
We'll fly to Canada on the second week of September and start looking for an apartment and a job right away.
We're already packing everything up and we're trying to sell our furniture and other things we won't be able to bring with us. These days we're thrilled and... hyper-active! ;-)
Can you imagine we finally did it? The longest and most stressful 9 months of our lives are over!

Hi Geminibella, thank you. Listen, don't ever give up on hope, please! Never! It's what keeps us going through this hell!
Try to do your best enjoying your time with your loved one. Don't let the frustration ruin your stay.
I know it might sound annoying coming from someone who's just got the visa, but hang in there!
Sooner then later your turn will come. Keep thinking it's almost over, it's almost your turn...
If I may ask, what time frame did your VO gave you in the AOR?

I'd better go now, I wish everyone all the best of luck! Keep posting your time lines and experiences, I'll be checking the forum for your updates! I'm not ready to let go of this forum, it's been a priceless resource for us. ;-)

We'll keep you posted on our upcoming big adventure! ;D

Have a wonderful weekend,
Barbara
