Jeff: They didnt toss me back to the start of the line ....Look at my timeline: They rec'd my complete app on Dec. 14 & it was approved on Jan. 4.
Took them 2 wks to finish it off. I didnt start again in the process.
But like the call centre told me its not guaranteed. She said normally they dont toss ppl back.

Sorry for the double post but want to congratulate the new ppl who have been approved. Must be happy even if u havent got ur letter yet. Letter or no letter be glad u have been approved n file has gone to embassy!!! Good luck n hope they r speedy for the others. Well, im buying my plane tickets tomorrowfor our kids and i to india to visit husband for 5 mths!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)

Maya22: my husband n i r not together in canada. He's been here a few times on visitor visas this yr and its my turn to go back to india (i used to live in india w/ him). He couldnt stay here for the duration of the sponsorship. Not possible...he's working in india and couldnt stay for a long visit cuz of his job. It makes more sense for us (financial) for him to stay in india while we do sponsorship. i hate this cold weather & cant wait to go back to india!!! Hope in the 5 mths im away we'll receive good news frm the embassy.WHILE im with him!!!

AOR - Acknowledgement of Receipt – the first official document that says the application for permanent residence status has been received.
PPR – Passport request – Immigration requests passport when they are ready to issue the visa.
DM - Decision made (waiting on letter to confirm)
VO - Visa Office

Hi Everyone!
I am new to this thread. Just found this blog. My husband and I submitted our outband app on December 12, 2010. He is a Canadain living in Canada, and I am American living in the States. We have been marriend almost 3 years. His job relocation is taking us to Ottawa. My question is: Once the application has begun being processed will I be able to move to Ottawa or do I have to wait on the Perm Resident Card?

I am very new to this so please bear with my silly questions!

hehe Thanks, Chrimano! I actually did just get the letter in the mail about a half hour ago. I was jumping the gun by posting my information with this weeks... although, eCAS had been updated.

It's all official now. We were approved. ;D

Looking forward to more approvals! And any little scraps of information the rest of us can get while we wait the long wait.

Nobody knows when CIC will start working on your case, so it's hard to predict when you will receive news from them
I would guess you will receive letter of approval or note on e-cas this month... :

@ FloridaNative - Hi there. Welcome to the forums! And more particularly, welcome to the December applicant thread. Congrats on getting your application in. I hope you'll receive your Sponsorship Decision soon!

I'm not really sure what the best answer to your question is. It's one you may want to ask to the general forum. There are a lot of factors involved. One thing, you always want to maintain your legal status regardless of what you decide. For another, with your application in progress the boarder guards will be sure to know you're coming up to be with your husband. They may decide to not let you across.

The best way around that is probably to show up at the boarder with your husband and evidence that you have submitted your application. Then you should explain to them that you would like to stay in Canada with your husband while you wait out the duration of your application process. At that time, they may give you the standard 6 months, or perhaps an extended stay visitors pass.

Another factor is, of course, finances. Can you afford to be out of work for the duration of your process?

Personally, I am here in Canada with my husband while we wait for my application. I came across the boarder in August before we were married, and now I'm looking at filling out the application to extend my status. I volunteer with my spare time to make contacts here in Canada and to help out my new community. Our budget is a little tight, but we're getting by. It's great to be with my husband rather than away from him.

I'm sorry that my reply is so rambling. It is possible for you to be in Canada with him legally, but there are many things to consider. I wish you the best! Please keep us up to date on the progress of your application.

Hi Florida,

You can come as a "visitor" for 6 months, then while here apply to extend your visitor status. If u show up and tell them you are planning to stay, and you have an outbound app in process then ur surely to get refused. You at all times have to keep your status in the US and make it look as though u have something to go back to. The application proof will validate your readon for coming for so long. If at anytime they feel you will overstay your welcome, you most likely wont get in unless you have a border officer who will look the other way. This is my experience from working at a Canadian Border and our training. Be honest though about your visit and with who...
