you don't pay 50$ when landing. the first card is free.
the fees of 50$ is only when you renew or ask for a modification.

@ waitingforwife
This should be your week, you will get the good news 8)

Looks like i just saved myself 50$.. and yes something is free here... good to know...thanks all..

Not sure if this could be something which could delay your file..i filed for my citizenship in Feb and its still in its early stages..
not sure if processing a citizenship and sponsorship at the same time can have an impact on your file..just a speculation

It proposes a condition PR and not a conditional entry to canada.
Which means nothing changes with the processing time..apply, wait and get your conditional PR visa...again 6 months. This won't happen in 2 days if it does it is known as dependent visa.
The only change this would mean that the conditional PR behaves for 2 years and not leave the sponsoring spouse if they want a PR status.
Having said this..there so MANY loopholes to stay in Canada once you set your foot here..
Lets say for example..hubby sponsors wife as conditional PR and he is abusive and she separates from him, you think they can send her back after 2 years?
they will find a lot of loopholes..............

It sucks that the wait is going to be similar.....but it does not impact us anyways.. does it..?? leave alone the "loopholes" part of it.. rules are made to the ones that follow it ....

I doubt it fprince....to me these are 2 different things.. but have you mentioned about this anywhere in the application?

I have had a friend of mine in the same situation...who had to skip ceremony for his wedding in India... his application got processed in less than 3 months...

Does anyone know if the automated line gets updated when the file reaches ND?

Not sure if i got your question right, assuming it was about the change in ecas when ND receives the file?
The trend i have seen in 2010-2011 is within 2-4 weeks once your sponsorship is approved your ecas for PR reads as
Application Received - We received your application on xxxx,xx
Medical results have been received.
