Yes, basically there 2 phase in Immigration:-

1) PR Eligibility (till Visa & COPR - where patience and luck required) - Time frame - 2 to 3 years

2) Settlement (more challenging than 1st one - where your capability, hard work, Determination, and Network required) - Time frame - 1 to 2 years

I have a different take on it - up to landing process is just 50% of the immigration story. The remaining 50% is the first one or two years of struggle you have to go through till you are comfortably settled. Some get through the hardships of remaining 50% and starts leading a life they actually wanted / dreamed of. Some give up much before and return to their home land.

If you divide the time line up to visa issue,

When you got a positive selection review : 40% of the first 50% is complete - Pass Mark
When you complete your medical : 60% of the first 50% is complete
When you get your visa and COPR in hand : 80% of the first 50% is complete
When you complete your landing process: 100% of your first stage of immigration is complete

You may agree or disagree with this. These are just my take on the Canadian Immigration Process as a whole and I thought of sharing it with you all.

Hope it helps.

There are no other requirements except the kids should be in Canada and Resident...

Canada provide child benefits. Each child also receive some monthly allowance too. Isn' it?

OK, Thanks...

Can someone please explain the meaning of different abbreviations used on this form, such as PPR1, PPR2, CSI, MR, UDR and so on. Sorry for my ignorance but I often feel lost due to these abbreviations. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help with this.

PPR1 - Passport Request 1 (applicable only for some applicants, otherwise just PPR)
PPR2 - Passport Request 2 (applicable only for some applicants, otherwise just PPR)
CSE - Case Specific Enquiry (CSI - Crime Scene Investigation; not applicable for Immigration)
UDR - Updated Documents Request
MR - Medical Request
COPR - Confirmation of Permanent Residence
AOR - Acknowledgement of Receipt
LVO - London Visa Office
PVO - Paris Visa Office
NDVO - New Delhi Visa Office

Thanks a lot ASK.

And what is MI1 and MI2 and so on. Seems like movies from mission impossible series, which is ironic considering what we are facing in this journey to canada.

Yea, in a way Mission Impossible series only...well, here they mean Ministerial Instructions 1,2,3 and 4. There is a time frame under which each of them are categorized. Pre Feb 2008 applicants - I don't know what to call them - are the unfortunate ones whose applications were returned (some of them) without processing after waiting for as long as 8 years in an attempt to reduce backlog. Then comes MI1 - Those who applied between Feb 2008 and June 2010... MI2 - between July 2010 and June 2011...Then came MI3 - between July 2011 and June 2012...There was a pause in the intake process since June 2012 till May 2013...So, MI4 are the latest breed of applicants trying to make Canada their Permanent Residence... :)

Ministerial Instructions - because of the intake rules / criteria announced by the minister varied from time to time.

Great. Thanks a lot. So now I know I belong to MI1 group.
