Hey all,

M starting a new thread for all those trying to do a 1 year course in Canada and settle down. Its always better to take 2 year course but I hope like me so many will be having there own reasons for joining 1 year course ( mine is financial nly ), where we are eligible only for 1 year stay back.

So guys what exactly are u planning for? How u planning to get a PR after ur course?

Welcoming seniors also who have done/doing 1 year studies...Plz share ur views
let this thread be informative, so it may help everyone.

Thanks a lot in Advance...

I was still planning for PG Diploma course of 1 year but when PR Comes into picture then 2 year is safe side.

But still I want to know if I pursue 2 year of PG Diploma rather than University degree as I am not inclined towards Research further , then would it add value or IS it like only Universities degree assist one in getting skilled Job

I have Budget constraints so that's why I am posting this query

Getting PR through a one year graduate/diploma course i would assume, would prove rather difficult. I mean if it were to be masters then you can apply for the PNP "things" (for lack of a better word LOL). Although I am hoping to go next year for my masters i think if i were to end up doing a graduate diploma i would chose a 2 year program instead of 1 as the 2/3 years pgwp you get will allow you enough time to explore other visa options.

hmmm my consultant has said me already about this 2 year programs are best for getting PR as it is having 3 year stay back, but my calculations are like to do one year degree then ll search for a job within 1 year and if m not able to find anything within that one year what is the use of staying there for two or three years further as we have to spend more money for staying.....! :-\

Further my consultant told me some advantages of 1 year course,
1. one year degree will be known as post graduate degree whereas 2 year will be known as post graduate diploma.
2. one year courses are widely accepted and preferred around the world.

and they said me, Worst case, if I couldn't find any job after my studies then think for another degree for one year so we will get 3year stay back total.

well from my perspective the two or three years you will get will provide you with enough time to search for a decent job if you have good qualifications and qualities required for the job, but if within that time you do not get a decent job and you are a hard worker, you could get back atleast a decent fraction of what you had spent on your course if not all of it from doing less skilled/professional jobs.

and in regards to what your consultant apparently told you, thats not exactly right. NOT all one year courses are regarded as "post graduate degree" and not all 2 year courses are known as post graduate diploma except if done in colleges, but at universities there are masters programs which run for two years and that doesnt make them any less valuable than a masters program done for a year.

so i think you need to do proper research because some consultants will tell you what they think you want to hear and it is only when things begin to go pear-shaped that they begin to tell the truth lol. but goodluck anyhow with whatever you chose to do

Thanks for the valuable feedback..

Ya what u said is right, all one year programs are not called as post graduate and regarding doing less skilled/professional jobs is also a valid point nly, that consultants have told the same.Infact m not relying nly on one I have been asking to so many regarding this, anyways all are agreeing to the point that 1 year course is good and have value for money it seems. Even I wish to pursue 2 years due to some reasons what I felt n trying to do is to try a luck after doing one year program, If it was not working out then ll apply for next program:-[

I don't see a reason for that, I tried google with the same and i found google showing post graduate study courses from different colleges.

Hi Fellow members!

I noticed this forum and can't refrain from replying to you all, the cause of this topic is to help people decide for "Term of their Study"

Just note the basic fact about Canada
- Once you are accepted to land here , Sooner or later you will obtain PR, there are heaps of programs and ministry is changing rules regularly
- Immigration consultants and lawyers have no interest in your future they talk to you just for money . So BEWARE
- Plan future ahead based on your PAST EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION
- Every Province need skilled people and there is system in place to accept you, PLAN AHEAD FOR TARGET POLICY TO ADOPT

About Me:
B.com(hons) D.U, PGDBA(F) Symbosis (SCDL) 5years experience in financial services
Completed 1yr study in Toronto, Canada 2009-2019 currently waiting for PR.

I would be happy to answer your specific question on your future strategy on courses, please understand that your PR prominently depend on your previous skills and education. Spending on 2year course will not only be huge expense but also waste of precious time for people who are almost 25
